First of all it is important to know what a sunscreen is, a sunscreen is an agent that helps prevent UV rays from directly affecting the skin, it usually comes in lotion, gel, cream or spray, by preventing UV rays from penetrating directly into our skin it protects us from the effects caused by solar radiation. Para poder escoger un buen protector solar es necesario que nos familiaricemos con el factor de protección solar o Fps, los fps nos van a indicar la fracción de rayos ultra violeta que serán capaces de penetrar en la piel, para entenderlo mejor podríamos decir que por ejemplo un protector solar que tenga un factor de protección de 60 permitirá que 1/60 de los rayos llegaran directamente a nuestra piel.

Entonces una vez que entendemos que es un protector solar debemos entender cuál es la importancia de utilizarlo. El sol es un agente que en con exposiciones pequeñas y controladas resulta beneficioso para nuestro cuerpo, estimula la síntesis de vitamina D y la producción de melanina entre otras funciones , sin embargo cuando nuestras exposiciones al sol se hacen muy prolongadas trae efectos dañinos para nuestra piel, puede causar quemaduras en la piel además de reducir su elasticidad y produce arrugas y envejecimiento prematuro de nuestra piel además la exposición indiscriminada y sin protección a los rayos uv del sol son el principal causante de cáncer de piel a nivel mundial.

Entonces aquí es donde radica la importancia de utilizar protector solar, es importante porque además de ayudarnos al cuidado estético de nuestra piel también nos protege de las posibles lesiones que puede causar el sol en nuestra piel y que con el pasar del tiempo podrían provocar cáncer. Es importante saber que el protector solar debemos utilizarlo todo el año, no solo en el verán ya que los rayos solares penetran en nuestra piel los 365 dias del año.

Ahora que sabemos que es un protector y cuál es su importancia te preguntaras como debo aplicarlo y en donde debo aplicarlo. Debemos aplicarlo mínimo media hora antes de salir de casa, debemos utilizar una cantidad considerable de protector y extenderlo por toda nuestra piel de manera uniforme, debemos enfocarnos mayormente en las regiones de nuestra piel que quedan expuestas al sol como nuestra cara y los brazos mayormente, debemos utilizarlo con frecuencia, idealmente 2 veces al día y considerar que si transpiramos mucho o si nos mojamos deberemos reaplicar nuestro protector.

Por último es necesario tener en cuenta que si aplicas algún otro tipo de crema en tu cara utilices siempre de ultimo el protector ya que si no estaras disminuyendo por mucho su efectividad.
