We are still in the dry season of the year with no rainfall yet but river bank farmers make use of this opportunity to grow vegetables by the river bank.
The constant flow of water from the river source is used to water these plants.
Yesterday i made a stop by at the farm to purchase some vegetables and will delight myself to show us some of the work going on here.
These farmers have divided all the locations here into various portions as large number of people usually compete for this small area beside the river bank.
They grow different types of vegetables from Jute mallow to spinach and other specie.
After preparing their different spot, each farmers goes ahead to plant their seeds.
Buckets are used to fetch water from the river to water water the plants just like the ones you see here.
If you are wondering why it is still possible to get fresh vegetables at this time of the year, I guess this is one of the answers.
In a more commercial irrigation system we have the hausa-fulanis here who also sink pipes down to the river to water their own portion of the farms, in their own case they plant lettuce okra and other species of veggies.
I got some vegetables for soup at a very cheap price although these are harvested and taking to various markets for sale, we are fortunate to live by and can purchase these leaves for use at a more affordable rate.
