Raksha Bandhan 😍

in GEMS2 months ago

Hello friends! I hope you are all doing well. I am doing great too. Today was a very special day for me —It was Raksha Bandhan, a festival that beautifully celebrates the eternal bond of love, trust, and protection between brothers and sisters.

I came to my parents’ home from my in-laws' house, just for this occasion.
And when I tied a rakhi made of soft cotton and silk on my brother’s wrist, it wasn’t just a thread —
It was a symbol of my blessings, emotions, and deep-rooted love for him.

The atmosphere at home was filled with warmth and memories.
Delicious sweets were being prepared, there were festive dishes on the table,
and the whole house was echoing with laughter, nostalgia, and conversations we don’t get to have every day.

Rakhi always takes me back to childhood —
The innocent fights, the endless teasing, and the love that silently held everything together.
And today, sitting with my brother, reliving those moments — I felt it all again. 💛

Today also happens to be the full moon day (Purnima) of the
Sawan month,
which holds religious significance in Hindu tradition.
On this day, there's also a ritual of changing the sacred thread (Janeu) for men who have undergone the Upanayan Sanskar.
While tying Rakhi, there is a beautiful mantra that is often recited:

“Yen baddho Bali raja danavendro mahabalah,
tena tvam api badhnami raksha ma chala ma chala.”

Meaning:
The sacred thread that once tied down the mighty King Bali,
I now use that same thread to tie you.
Dear Raksha (protection), remain firm and unwavering.
This mantra isn’t just a ritual —
It reminds us of how strong the bond of protection and love is between siblings,
and how it's meant to last — unshaken by time, distance, or life’s ups and downs.

Honestly, today became one of those days that stays with your heart for a long time.
It made me feel grateful — not just for the tradition,
but for the emotional connection we still share despite growing up and growing apart.
