Hello hivians,

This morning I will be sharing with you guys how I made a waistcoat.

Waistcoat is a sleeveless upper body garment and it is usually worn over a dress shirt and necktie, below a coat as a part of most men's formal wear. It is also spoted as the third piece in the traditional three-piece male suit.

Belo I will be showing you the process of how I made it.

The materials used are:

  • fabric
  • linen
  • hair stay
  • paper stay
  • thread

CUTTING PROCESS

After measurements has been ascertain, we can proceed to cutting of the fabrics.

Below are the measurements I will be using.

  • Shoulder 18
  • Chest 38
  • length 24

Next I proceeded to cutting of the fabrics.

Fold your fabrics together draw a straight line, where we are going to start our measurements from.

  • Firstly we measure the back which is 9 inches (i.e 18 divided by 2), and take away 1.5 inches and measure 4 inches from that point, so as to station it at the middle since its sleeveless, then measure ur shoulder rest which is two inches and measure your armpit hole from that particular point, mind you armpit hole for waistcoat is always bigger than that of shirt so I will be using 9 inches, then measure the chest which is 9.5 inches then add button allowance 0.75 inches and sewing allowance 0.5 inches, making 10.75 inches, then measure the length, join the dotted line and cut.

  • Fold the fabrics again and pattern it halfway, then use your linen to complete it.

  • Then proceed to cutting of the back, at this point, we will fold the back double way, place the front on it leaving out the button allowances, measure 3 inches from the upper part of the shoulder and 2.5 inches from the lower part then cut.

  • Next, cut some pieces for your pocket.

  • After which we proceed to sewing.

SEWING PROCESS

  • First thing to do is to fix the pocket, to get the pocket point, measure 8 inches upward from the down tip, at this point you measure 3 inches from the front tip and fix your pocket.

  • After that had been done, join the ones you cut halfway and turn it with the front, mind you, you won't sew the shoulder and the side below armpit. Turn it out and iron thoroughly.

  • Sew the back neck then fix the front shoulder to the back and sew, then sew the back armpit hole taking out the front, join the sides together with the front and Join the down leaving about 3 inches to turn it outside. Iron thoroughly, fix the button and buttons holes.

Finally, you have a ready to wear waistcoat.
