Organizing a local event in your area can be a complicated task, but organizing a march for the visualization of a minority doesn't exactly sound easy... But that wasn't going to stop us from doing our best to make it happen.

Organizar un evento local en tu zona puede llegar a ser una tarea complicada, pero organizar una marcha en pro de la visualización de una minoría no suena precisamente a algo fácil… Aunque eso no nos iba a detener de dar nuestro mayor esfuerzo para hacerlo posible.

To give some context, in the city where I live it is not something well seen to support or belong to the LGBT community, besides being a community with VERY little representation, so we had a problem in front of us and it was time to find a solution, create a safe environment where all members of this community feel supported, loved and safe.

Para dar un poco de contexto, en la ciudad donde vivo no es algo bien visto el apoyar o pertenecer a la comunidad LGBT, además de ser una comunidad con MUY poca representación, por lo que teníamos en frente un problema y era momento de buscar una solución, crear un entorno seguro donde todos los miembros de esta comunidad nos sintamos apoyados, queridos y seguros.

It all started one day with a conversation in a whatsapp group, a friend proposed the idea of doing an event to help us raise awareness and exposure to a minority that for years has been rejected and belittled, after many turns we decided that the best idea would be to make a concentration in the central area of the city, meet in a popular square and from there start a walk with banners to let the whole city know that we exist, we are proud and we will not accept any kind of exclusion.

Todo empezó un día con una conversación en un grupo de whatsapp, una amiga propuso la idea de hacer un evento que nos ayude a dar consciencia y exposición a una minoría que por años ha sido rechazada y menospreciada, luego de darle muchas vueltas decidimos que la mejor idea sería hacer una concentración en el casco central de la ciudad, reunirnos en una plaza popular y desde ahí iniciar una caminata con pancartas para hacer saber a toda la ciudad que existimos, que estamos orgullosos y que no vamos a aceptar ningún tipo de exclusión.

The day set for the rally was June 25, a few days before LGBT Pride day, this day was chosen because it was a Saturday, a feasible day for many people who meet a work schedule or have to attend their university to see classes in person, public calls were made, Although we received some mocking comments, in general everything flowed organically, the information was spread little by little and we had more and more messages of support and many people confirmed their attendance.

El día pautado para la concentración fue el 25 de Junio, pocos días antes del día del Orgullo LGBT, se eligió este día por ser un sábado, día factible para muchas personas que cumplen con un horario laboral o tienen que asistir a su universidad para ver clases presenciales, se hizo llamados públicos, se diseñaron volantes y se hizo una publicidad masiva para que todos sepan qué día y dónde deberían estar, aunque recibimos alguno que otro comentario con tono de burla, en general todo fluyó de forma orgánica, se divulgó poco a poco la información y cada vez teníamos más mensajes de apoyo y muchas personas nos confirmaron su asitencia.

The day had arrived, the scheduled time to start was at 10AM, but we asked to meet at 9AM to organize a little before starting the march, one of the organizers arrived with me an hour earlier, at 8AM, we were nervous because there was no one there, which was understandable because it was very early, but we were also overcome with the fear of not having communicated the information well, of not having the presence of people we expected, we were afraid that our march would be a failure, But to no one's surprise, because our country is characterized by an extremely unpunctual population, people began to arrive just 10 minutes before the start of the march, there was a massive participation to the point that it was a total challenge to organize so many people, something that certainly filled us with mixed feelings, mainly we were happy to have so much participation, but at the same time it was overwhelming because we had to meet the expectations that, at this point, were very high.

El día había llegado, la hora pautada para iniciar era a las 10AM, pero pedimos reunirnos a las 9AM para organizar un poco previo a iniciar la marcha, uno de los organizadores llegó conmigo una hora antes, a las 8AM, estábamos nerviosos pues no había nadie, lo cual era entendible pues era muy temprano, pero de igual forma nos invadía el miedo de no haber comunicado bien la información, de no tener la presencia de personas que esperamos, teníamos miedo de que nuestra marcha fuese un fracaso, pero para la sorpresa de nadie pues nuestro país se caracteriza por tener una población sumamente impuntual, la gente empezó a llegar a tan solo 10 minutos antes de iniciar el recorrido, hubo una participación masiva al punto que fue un reto total poder organizar a tanta gente, algo que sin duda nos llenó de sentimientos encontrados, principalmente estábamos felices de tener tanta participación, pero al mismo tiempo era algo abrumante pues teníamos que cumplir las expectativas que, a este punto, estaban muy altas.

10Am, the march began normally, between shouts, newly invented chants and flags of representation we could breathe an air of tranquility, there was not a single moment of harassment by homophobia, we did not receive negative comments, maybe an ugly look, but otherwise it was a fairly quiet march, people who were in their vehicles stopped and shouted words of support, sounded their horns to the sound of the music we carried in our horns, and congratulated us, something that certainly filled us with much more joy.

10Am, inicia la marcha con normalidad, entre gritos, cánticos recién inventados y banderas de representación se podía respirar un aire de tranquilidad, no hubo ni un solo momento de acoso por homofobia, no recibimos comentarios negativos, quizá una que otra mirada fea, pero del resto fue una marcha bastante tranquila, personas que iban en sus vehículos se detenían y nos gritaban palabras de apoyo, sonaban sus bocinas al son de la música que llevábamos en nuestras bocinas, y nos felicitaban, algo que sin duda nos llenó de mucha más alegría.

The route was from a downtown square to a highly visited park, in the park would be the concentration and to everyone's surprise, even inside the park we had the support of the national police, and we met with government entities that happened to support a cause similar to ours, only a little more generalized. Their cause was to combat school bullying, domestic harassment, and the origin of it. They gave us a rather emotional talk and then let us continue with the access to the park.

El recorrido era desde una plaza del centro hasta un parque altamente visitado, en el parque sería la concentración y para sorpresa de todos, incluso dentro del parque tuvimos el apoyo de la policía nacional, y nos encontramos con entidades gubernamentales que casualmente apoyaban una causa similar a la nuestra, solo que un poco más generalizada. Su causa era combatir el bullying escolar, el acoso doméstico, y el origen del mismo. Nos dieron una charla bastante emotiva y luego nos dejaron continuar con el acceso al parque.

Dentro del parque cada grupo de amigos se dispersó, aunque a la media hora todos coincidimos en hacer un grupo completo en una zona apartada, para no molestar con lo que coloquialmente llamamos en mi país como “bochinche”, una jerga que hace referencia a un desorden o alboroto, en este caso aplica para el ruido generado por la música, los gritos y bailes en forma de celebración, algo parecido a una fiesta, pero sin ingerir alcohol ni nada que esté en contra de la normativa del parque.
ESPAÑOL
Inside the park each group of friends dispersed, although after half an hour we all agreed to make a complete group in a secluded area, so as not to disturb with what we colloquially call in my country as "bochinche", a slang that refers to a disorder or disturbance, in this case it applies to the noise generated by the music, shouting and dancing in the form of celebration, something like a party, but without drinking alcohol or anything that is against the rules of the park.

From the beginning it was agreed to do everything in a quiet way, no alcoholic beverages, no cigarettes, no exhibitionism or any attitude that could generate negative comments or a bad presence for us. And surprisingly so, everything went smoothly, everyone followed the established rules and peacefully participated in what was the first of many large-scale events that will take place in my city. We made so much noise that little by little they replicated us, and we hope to organize another similar event soon, for the moment we will enjoy events organized by other people, but always leaving the image of our community high.

Desde el principio se acordó realizar todo de forma tranquila, sin bebidas alcohólicas, sin cigarros, sin exhibicionismo ni alguna actitud que pueda generar comentarios negativos o una mala presencia para nosotros. Y sorprendentemente fue así, todo fluyó de forma tranquila, todos hicieron caso a la normativa establecida y, de forma pacífica participaron en el que fue el primer de muchos eventos a gran escala que habrá en mi ciudad. Hicimos tanto ruido que poco a poco fueron replicándonos, y esperamos organizar otro evento similar dentro de poco, por los momentos disfrutaremos de eventos organizados por otras personas, pero siempre dejando la imagen de nuestra comunidad en alto.

Maybe this post breaks a little bit the scheme that I have followed with my publications, but it was really an emotional moment and I was dying to share it with all of you, I hope to receive the support I received in my community, and I want to thank you for taking the time to read my publication, without anything else to add I say goodbye for today, but soon I will be back with more content.
