Yes, I wanted to write more about the processionary (but people get bored). Apparently these are great (and dangerous) pests and their reach is spreading across the world. Their hairs carry easily on the wind and fall to the ground. Dogs and other animals have actually lost their lives through indirect contact. Children are at especial peril (as you were).
Perhaps another blog about these critters will be interesting.
