Beauties of Azores: Cha Gorreana, Europe´s only tea plantation

in GEMS4 years ago (edited)

Hi there my Hivean friends and followers!

Welcome to my special weekly series called Beauties of Azores that was created by me to raise awareness of the extraordinary charm of a captivating Portuguese archipelago known as the Azores.

I think I skipped a week or two because of all the recent happenings on both our old and new chain but I am now fully shifted to Hive and I am running all my series here.

With that being said, it is my pleasure to show you another hidden gem of the Azores - a picturesque tea plantation known as Cha Gorreana.

Located on the northern coast of the Sao Miguel Island, just outside of the little coastal village of Sao Bras, the plantation was founded by local Camara family as early as in 1883.

Family own and managed ever since, Cha Gorreana boasts the primacy of being the oldest and currently also the only European tea plantation.

Grown in the pristine wilderness of the Sao Miguel Island, thousands of miles away from big polluted cities, Cha Gorreana Tea is considered a world class bio tea as no herbicides, pesticides or any other chemicals are used on the plantation. The product is 100% natural.

A little tea factory is a part of the plantation where delicious green and black tea is made. Visitors can taste it for free. There is also a little souvenir shop and museum where visitors can learn more about the tea production.

Covering a total area of 32 acres, the plantation is surrounded by lush green hills that are home to a few amazing hiking trails, one of which leads to the beautiful Cidreira Waterfall.

Unfortunately, the waterfall trail was closed due to some maintenance work when we visited the plantation but we managed to explore some other parts of the plantation and its spectacular natural surroundings.

Visiting Cha Gorreana was definitely one of the highlights of our trip to this part of the island and I can recommend this place even to those who are not into drinking tea. The plantation itself is just beautiful and so is the surrounding nature with the ocean on one side and the majestic green hills on the other.

I hope you enjoyed this episode of my Beauties of Azores series that was dedicated to Cha Gorreana, an amazing tea plantation found on the Sao Miguel Island. All of the photos featured in this post were taken by me.

If you want to learn more about this exquisite Portuguese archipelago and its charms, stay tuned for the next episodes of my Beauties of Azores series ;)
