The crown reigns all over the world, and everyone just wanted to go on vacation somewhere during these hot summer days. I had planned to go to Greece with my family, but unfortunately the borders were closed. My mom decided to go to Bulgaria for a vacation. Which we did.

I am currently in the beautiful Bulgarian city of Nessebar. I am pleasantly surprised at how nice, clean everything is here and the people are very nice and always in a good mood. I bathe and sunbathe all day, I feel like there is no pandemic, which I honestly think is bad. If I get infected, hopefully I won't pass it on to you.

And now a little about the history of this wonderful place in Bulgaria.

The first Thracian colony on the territory of today's Nessebar existed as early as 1000 BC. Centuries later the Thracian Greeks settled on the peninsula, which was replaced by the Romans. Today, only the archeological finds that can be seen in museums are reminiscent of the ancient period of emigrant history.

When the Roman Empire disintegrated, the territory of present-day Bulgaria became part of Byzantium. Remains of military, civilian and religious buildings have been preserved in Nessebar since then.

At the end of the 12th century AD, as a result of an uprising led by the Bulgarian aristocrats Ivan and Asenaj, the Second Bulgarian Kingdom was formed, in which Nessebar was included. During this period, numerous churches were built on the peninsula, built in Byzantine architectural traditions using masonry opus mixum, which includes the simultaneous use of brick and limestone. These buildings are much better preserved than the buildings of the Byzantine period.

The Ottoman period of the city's history, which began in the late 14th century, when Bulgaria fell under Turkish pressure, is reminiscent of the abundance of characteristic houses with stone bottoms and a second floor made of wood. These buildings belong to the period of the so-called Bulgarian Renaissance, which began in the late 18th century against the background of the weakening of Turkey.
