I know that woman. I know her by her kindness, infectious smile, and generous heart. Even though she is small, there is a no bigger woman for me! She changes this world with her good heart and small deeds of love. She lives in a small town, as she likes to say: in her house in flowers. And in her garden stands a proud, beautiful and fragrant cherry. Every year sometime in late spring, this cherry generously bears its sweet fruits. It is so full that its branches bend under the weight of its splendour. Anyone who comes to that garden can't resist it…
And so every spring, that small but big woman, usually when no one is looking at her, picks from her cherry tree, fills and overfills the baskets and goes into action. Usually on the eve when no one sees her, she quietly leaves her full baskets in front of her neighbours’ doors. Or deliver cherries to a stranger. Saying nothing…
He only knows how to flicker her smile when someone comes by and tells her all in wonder; how someone unknown had left a basket full of fragrant cherries in front of his door! She also came to me one summer with good intentions and a big smile. But she brought a finished empty basket of her legendary cherries. The basket was half empty because she shared her cherries somewhere along the way. To everyone, she met on her way…
I know that cherry and I know that woman. I know her for her kindness and infectious smile. And when I think of her, I smile too. Because she is a great woman, who, perhaps without even knowing it, is changing this world with her cherries and small acts of love.
