Hello everyone,
Today I went to an exhibition with my friend. Actually, we went to a big art gallery where they usually host several exhibitions simultaneously, and we usually visit all of them at once when we go there. Although I feel super tired every time after the visit, I still think it is worth the effort as all of the exhibitions are always outstanding.
The 2 exhibitions, Locus Solus and ThisPlay, were my favorite exhibitions amongst all of the others, so I will share some of the works I most liked from them.
Locus Solus
The first exhibition we visited was Locus Solus. This exhibition aims to examine and focus on the idea of "nature", through the perspective of facts, fictions and emotions. The exhibition, which deals with the ways in which nature and culture penetrate and influence each other, also examines the intersections between organic processes and natural environments and human activity and artifacts.
These are my favorite works from this exhibition.
There was a very intense cardboard smell inside due to the material of this forest-like room.
This work is made out of real soil and plants, and emphasizes the interplay between life, death and nature.
ThisPlay
The next exhibition was called ThisPlay. It aims to explore the themes of childhood and play. It examines the liberating nature of play, and its ability to suspend and reconstruct reality. Play can transcend the mundane aspects of daily life in different ways. Eventually, it creates its own distinct systems and meaning structures.
This exhibition was my favorite amongst the others. I like the fact that most of the works consisted of simple materials and few components, yet they delivered their messages in an incredibly powerful and direct way. The fact that most of the works in this exhibition had some connection with the themes of play and childhood also made the experience quite fun.
For example, in the work with a dartboard, the spectators are invited to shoot the arrows on the boards. With each new arrow stuck in the board, the appearance of the artwork transforms and evolves into something different, and the work itself becomes the work of both the artist and the audience. In this sense, there is a two-way interaction between the artist and the spectators.
These were my favorite works from this exhibition.
This is another of my favorite works in the exhibition. All paintings are made of aluminum and oil paint. Although aluminum is actually a material used in futuristic works and has a cold feeling, it is used here to describe very ordinary and wrm daily life scenes. I was blown away by the contrast created here.
This actually looks like a traditional Anatolian carpet or prayer rug used by Muslims, but the artist playfully placed a basketball court on top of it. I think this was genius and deep!
