And third year!
It is a delight to watch this little calamansi tree do its thing... and in a pot! It just chills, soaking up the sun, minding its own business, and BOOM... new green fruits like mini limes!
It started off as a year-old little plant, barely two feet tall. The calamansi plant had lush and healthy leaves when I got it, which gave me high hopes for it. It's got roots, it's got light, and it's got me, who checks on it like every day.
Every time I walk past it and see a tiny fruit forming, I imagine the tree is saying, "Hey, I'm still here, I am still growing. I am still doing my thing." And I can't help but smile (and maybe I say back to the tree, "Same here, buddy...same here!").
And so, this little calamansi tree in its humble pot keeps growing! It is not just a plant anymore. It is a quiet companion... a tiny triumph.
Watching my calamansi tree grow is like watching patience pay off. And it's a quiet kind of comfort.
Here is a write-up about calamansi limes:
Calamansi limes are a citrus fruit of the species Citrus x microcarpa, which are believed to be a hybrid of kumquats (Citrus japonica) and mandarin oranges (Citrus reticulata). They are sometimes also known as Philippine limes, Philippine lemons, or calamondin; the words calamansi and calamondin are sometimes spelled kalamansi and kalamondin, respectively. They're native to the Philippines as well as parts of Indonesia and China.
Calamansi limes are small fruits, usually measuring around an inch in diameter and weighing around 30 grams. They're round to slightly flattened. The skin of the fruit is shiny and thin, and can be eaten along with the rest of the fruit. Indeed, the skin is actually sweeter than the fruit itself. Calamansi limes are green when immature, turning a greenish orange and then finally fully orange as it ripens. But since it can take up to a year for calamansi to ripen, they are mostly used in their unripe state. The fruit itself is orange in color, even when the skins are still green, and consists of around seven to nine segments along with a number of cream-colored seeds. They are available year-round, although their peak season is from winter to early spring.

I never seen these until I went to Philippines. u know dalandan? (like big more sweet like orange, but looks like a big calamansi) I want to have a tree of this.. :)
Have you been to the Philippines? Me, too!!! But I don't know dalandan. When I came across this tree in the nursery, it reminded me of the Philippines, so I bought it. I am glad I did!
Thank you, @chinito!

I lived in ph for 4 years before covid chased me back to hawaii.
I will go back there soon tho..
I went as far north in Bagiou, and going down in Alaminos to visit Hundred Island and zip-lined from one island to another; as far south, Cagayan de Oro, and scuba dived; far west as Mindoro; and of course, Manila, @chinito!

I look forward to juicing it, @thebighigg. I called my Filipina sorority sister to inquire, and she said it takes 6 pieces of calamansi fruit to make a cup of juice... and I think I have about six ready for picking!
BTW, look at the Filipino desserts served in her house.

It's hard to grow Calamansi, but your Calamansi is healthy and full of fruit, and it's really good to feel like it's bearing fruit even though it's small.
I know they grow quite tall, and their trunks become substantial. I suppose if I planted this tiny tree in the ground, it would grow bigger. I'll probably give it another half a year. Come spring, I might transfer it to the front of the house, instead of the traditional lemon tree!
Thank you, @crstypatata.

After three years mini lemon fruits harvesting your calamansi tree. I believe you have take care about this tree still three years. Every gardner's hope like this.
I hope it grows some more! I am thinking of transferring it to the front of the house come spring.
Thank you, @madushanka.

If you are anything like us, then you will be talking to your plants🤣 Great to see the efforts of you and the wee tree baring fruit!
!LOL, I talk to them, @tengolotodo. It comes with the territory... I live alone! And my three Yorkies are gone, and they are about the only living things in my house.
Thank you, @tengolotodo.

I talk to all our plants too, it's a great thing to do, they never give you any lip back!
!LOL yes, @tengolotodo! It’s a gentle ritual that blends science, and care!
I asked CoPilot about this:

Aha well no smoke without fire and all that. My grandmother had a huge green thumb and no matter if was house plants or vegetables they would all go crazy and she spoke to them.
So vibrations from our voices is a great explanation. Thank you so much for all this.

Sounds interesting sis! So, what have you used the fruits for? Do you eat them with the skin on or off; pop them like popcorn into your mouth? Or, perhaps, part of some lush and tantalizing dessert? Sounds tasty!
Thank you for sharing and have a lovely week! Much love, hugs and kisses sis!🤗😘😍❤️🌻 !LADY !LUV !HOPE !INDEED

I use it in place of lime or lemon. It tastes milder! But I have been able to harvest one fruit at a time. I think I will try juicing it when I have six!

So much fruit growing on this little tree @silversaver888 !🤗
Have you tasted any of these limes, or use them in any particular dishes you have made?
Yes, I have used in in tacos in place of lime, and in noodles, in place of lemons. I really like the flavor. It is a lot milder, @silvertop 😃!

I believe that we have seen this particular fruit tree at our large nursery store in town. I don’t know if it would like the cooler temperatures in our house though…🙄
While going through the article I was wondering what exactly is Calamanis, until I noticed the end. They definitely look like lime, even the leaves except they are a bit bigger, I believe. In my childhood I had one in our Defense quarters and the limes were in great demand.
Hopefully this little tree looks so fresh.
Yes, the fruits are very tiny, compared to limes or lemons.
Defense quarters? I'm curious... Are you in the military, @shamis?

Calamansi...some say it tastes better than lemon as a juice. It's also added in soy sauce for a tasty dip.
Ah, soysauce. I can add it to my dish, like barbecue! That's an idea!!!

Such a neat little tree with what looks like a great deal of fruit being produced from it. I am sure it will make for some good additions to your Mexican dishes. I already read where you added them to your tacos. We have a small lemon tree trying to grow in a pot in our backyard along with some blueberries. Neither are big enough yet to produce fruit. Hoping we can care for them as well as you have yourr calamansi.
And its trunk is so tiny!!! I tied it to the bistro chair, since it gets so windy here. I am thinking of transferring the calamansi tree to the front of the house come spring.
Keep me updated about your lemon tree, @coinjoe!

Beautiful cultivation and good yields are being seen, and we hope for even better yield in the future.
Yes, I am almost sure it will be better next year. In its second year, it flowered so much but did not yield fruit; I think I only harvested three or four fruits. But this year it is yielding so many fruits! I'm pretty excited, @kawsar8035!
