Famous Parsi Delicacy-Patra Ni Machi(Fish Cooked in Banana leaves)

Today I decided to share with you a heavenly tasty Parsi fish cuisine Patrani Machi. Before sharing the recipe would also like to share with you the benefits of pomfret fish.

There are several benefits of Pomfret fish. The fish contains many nutrients such as omega-3 fatty acids, high-quality protein, iodine, minerals, and several vitamins. Ingredients:-

1.Pomfret Fish- 4 medium.
2.Banana leaves- 4 large pieces(to wrap the fish).
3.Green Chilies- 6nos.
4.Cumin Seeds- 2tsp.
5.Garlic- 10 cloves.
6.Fresh coconut- 3/4cup(grated).
7.Mint leaves- 1cup.
8.Coriander leaves- 1cup.
9.Raw mango- 1small(peeled & cubed).
10.Lemon Juice- 1tsp.
11.Sugar- 1-1/2tsp.
12.Salt- To taste.

Preparation Method:-

Step 1- First, clean all fish and make slits on both sides. Pat dry and set aside. Now in a blender jar, add Cumin seeds, green chilies, raw mango pieces, coriander leaves, mint leaves, Garlic, coconut, salt, sugar, lemon juice, and little water.

Step 2- Grind and make a fine paste(green chutney) with all ingredients. Paste should be a thick consistency.

Step 3- Now, place a steamer on medium flame. Take a piece of banana leaf and place it on the steamer; until it becomes soft(about a minute from both sides). This will help banana leaf become soft and will not tear during folding. Follow the same for the remaining banana leaves.

Step 4- Now, place the banana leaf on a plate and spread green chutney(Step 1) on the leaf. Place a fish on it, and again spread green chutney over the fish.

Step 5- Next, fold the banana leaf(from the four sides) like a parcel; and tie-up, with a string. Follow the same process for the remaining fish pieces.

Step 6- Place the wrapped fish parcel on the steamer. Now, steam all parcels for about 15 minutes. After 15 minutes, carefully take out the fish parcel from the steamer.

Step 7- Now, gently open the wrapper and serve hot with steamed rice.
