I hope you all are safe and doing great. Sometimes when I sit alone and think about our society, few stories come to mind automatically. When we were kids, our parents always motivated us that we should be honest. But we often forget to follow this word in real life. Let me share with you a story to conjecture in a better way.
One day a CEO of a very flourishing company was about to retire. So, it was the time when he should leave his seat and choose a replacement. But he didn't want to give the position to his children. He decided that he will choose a young administrator from the company for the job. He arranged a meeting and said that he had determined to choose one of his employees for the CEO position. Everyone was shocked by his decision. But before giving the post, he states that he will give a seed of different plants to every employee; and they have to plant the seed. After one year, on the same day, the CEO will again organize a meeting. To judge; who will be the next CEO of the company. In this one year, the employees have to water and plant the seed. The CEO wants to see what the employees grow from the seed. After judging the plants, he will decide the next CEO of his company.
There was an employee named Vidya. Just like everyone else, Vidya was super thrilled. She went home with the seed and told her parents everything. The family starts watering the seed in a pot. As days went by, everyone in the office was swaggering about how their plants had grown. But Vidya was silent. Her seed is not growing. But Vidya didn't stop watering the seeds. While everyone else's plants grew tall and beautiful, Vidya's seed was dead.
Vidya was disturbed by the result. After one year, the day arrived; when the next CEO of the company would be chosen. Vidya didn't want to bring her empty pot to the office. But her mother emphasized she should be honest and take the empty pot to the office. When Vidya arrived at the office, everyone had beautiful and colorful trees on their desks. Vidya entered the room with the empty pot. Her colleagues started laughing at her and mocking her. When the CEO entered the room, everyone presented their trees.
But Vidya was standing at the back with the bare pot. She was feeling confused. The CEO noticed the empty pot in Vidya's hand and asked her to come forward. He asked why her pot is empty? Vidya told everything honestly. All the other employees started laughing upon hearing the story; Vidya was frightened. She thought she was about to be fired. The CEO said, "Ladies and gentleman, I present to you the next CEO of our company." Her name is Vidya; everyone was astounded
One employee shouted, "but she couldn't even grow the plant!" The CEO continued, "Exactly one year ago! on this day, I had given you all boiled seeds. Which couldn't be planted." Every one of you changed the seeds and replaced them with another." To show that you were victorious, only Vidya was the honest one who stayed true. The whole room went quiet. Vidya was not embarrassed anymore, but her colleagues were. The CEO taught the executives an important lesson."If you plant honesty, you will reap trust!"
