Diwali is an Indian festival also known as the festival of lights for the use of diya, lamps, lit across the house and your balcony. You light up your entire house to signify the victory of light over darkness, goodness over evil and is also the day Lord Shri Ram returned to Ayodhya after his exile.

The story is itself is a wonderful one, a delight to hear and full of instructions from the God in the format of a story so that it can be easily understood by all. This is the epic, Ramayana, written by Valmiki. The beauty of the Indian epocs or Itihasa's as they are known is that the knowledge in them are very relevant even to this day, many thousands of years later.

You should get a copy if you can and imbibe the knowledge from the God. The other epic is Mahabharata of which is the most popular and well known, Bhagavad Gita. Gita is actually a part within the epic of Mahabharata, which is a conversation between the supreme Lord, Shri Krishna and his friend Arjuna.

While people generally use Gita as a book of advice or for inspiration and while it is all that, what it actually is, an instruction manual on devotion to God and how to reach and realize God.

While Gita is only 700 verses in lwngth, a discussion on it can last thousands of pages and probably might still be lacking in all the matters that can be discussed. Being words right from the God, naturally understanding, reading and following them is of great importance.

I should probably write a separate post on this or I might go on and on, So, Diwali is here and let's offer our prayers to the Supreme Lord.
