Africa's Iconic Tree of life | How it relates to human

in GEMS4 years ago

I'll be writing about nature and the lessons it teaches us. So watch out for my posts.

I chose the Baobab tree to start with. Any specialities about this tree? Yes, there is a lot to learn here. Take a sip of coffee and follow me around the African Savannah region.

Adansonia is a genus of deciduous trees known as baobabs. They are native to the regions of Madagascar and mainland Africa. The tree has also been introduced to other regions such as Australia and Asia. The generic name honours Michel Adanson, the French naturalist and explorer who described Adansonia digitata.

In the Savannah forests lies a great tree called the baobab. The tree is native to the regions of Madagascar and mainland Africa.
The baobab tree is known as the tree of life, with good reason.

  • It's crown helps to provide shelter

  • The cork-like bark and huge stem are fire resistant and are used for making cloth and rope.

  • It bears fruits which serves as food, it's bark stores a considerate amount of water for the animal and human inhabitants of the African savannah regions.

Digression

What we often experience a times is as a result of the pictures we paint in our dreams, things we imagine, high stakes we do not want to risk & overcome. Then it becomes a strong force which sets us back from achieving our set goals in life.

The Baobab grows in the arid regions of Africa where there's limited water (resources) for it to survive. I can say it is no different from a camel that thrives in the desert. Even in the face of adversities and insufficiency, the tree has more than 300 uses.

Apart from its size and height, the leaves are used for food essence, the seed for processing coffee and oil, while it's fruit pulp contains the necessary vitamin C no other tree has. It beats science that in arid regions where it flourishes, it also helps to keep its surrounding humid.

... As it relates to human

Life choices like the Baobabs defines how strongly or weakly prepared we are. The tree prepares itself towards the journey of survival, it stores enough water in its trunks and branches. It takes its time to fruition [15-20 years] , sheds its leaves and doesn't flower for 6 months. After all these stressful moments, it begins to grow in its beauty, might, full of power, strength, thickness, fruition and strong resistance against the most powerful winds.

It does not bend in the face of the darkest situations. It grows more and more in strength. A hundred years from now, a baobab continues to be as strong and productive as it was.

In essence, what we become in our future is a result of the life choices we make whilst sprouting through the spikes and the flowers. Life is not equal to Mr A, B or C. Nevertheless, I am prompting you to be like the baobab that makes the right choices.

Do not allow your natural ecosystem dictate what you will become tomorrow, take those risks/steps, you will be glad you did. The ideology behind every decision or steps you take today may only be clearer or visible to you only at the moment, but with time, others around you will note you wielded a powerful choice of sword in the wilderness. Spice up your journey with consistency - a key to self development.

I want to use this opportunity to charge my audience to grow a tree per house, trees should not go extinct. The purpose it serves us, the ecosystem is immense and we dare not experience the aftermath of its absence because it is disastrous.
