Shagbark Hickory Trees in my yard for @parul2411's #ThursdayTreeLove

in GEMS4 years ago

I've been meaning for ages to take part in Parul's #ThursdayTreeLove photo feature on her amazing blog, Happiness and Food, and today I'm finally doing it! At first I was thinking of finding some shots in my archives of some snow covered pine trees (can you tell we've had a heat wave here in New England...lol), but then I decided to grab my camera and get some new shots of some of the Shagbark Hickory trees in our yard.

If you want to join in the Tree love fun, it's really easy - here's the description from her latest post today, called #ThursdayTreeLove – 92

Thursday Tree love is a photo feature hosted on this blog on every 2nd and 4th Thursday of a month. The next edition will go live on August 13, 2020. If you would like to play along, post a picture of a tree on your blog and link it back to this post.

If you don’t see the pingback, please leave a link to your post in my comments section. Please make sure that your post’s link is showing up on this latest edition. I will link your posts on my blog in the next edition and spread some love. Let’s come together to appreciate the beautiful nature around us.

A few of the Shagbark Hickory Trees in my yard

1. This is the view I have from my bedroom window, near my computer desk. I took this almost leaning against the house, so I could fit them both (one on each side) into the frame. 😂

2. Instead of trying to make it down the hill to get closeups of those two, I meandered over to the other side of the yard to get this beauty, which is one of my favorites on the property. This is how it looks at eye level.

3. A closer look at the moss on the bark...

4. ... it makes such cool patterns - I think I spy a Green Man or two on this one!

5. And this looks a bit like flowers

6. Hard to believe such an unassuming looking trunk...

7... keeps this gorgeous giant tethered to the earth!

Thanks for the nudge on Twitter today, Parul! Also, I noticed when I went to get the link to your profile that somehow I wasn't following you anymore - it's the second time this week I've discovered I'd somehow unfollowed people without realizing I had. 😳 My guess is that it happened whilst I was Twittering on my phone - sometimes my Essential Tremor shaky fingers do things they're not supposed to (which is why I'm not doing the mobile thing as much any more - it's getting me into too much trouble! 🤣). At any rate, I appreciate #ThursdayTreeLove for giving me an excuse to take a few new snaps - thanks again and Happy Thursday!

Oh wow - I LOVE LOVE LOVE the lichens on the trees!! What a gorgeous set of sentinel-guardian spirits! 😍 🌳

Thank you, @artemislives - I couldn't pull the word, "lichens" out of my brain when I was writing the captions!😂

And yes, the guardian spirits on this property are amazingly gorgeous - I consider myself lucky every day that we get to live here on this magical piece of property filled with tall trees and huge granite stones. 💚

Those are gorgeous trees! So lucky you have those in your yard :D

Thanks, @foxyspirit! Even with the issues that come with living on this property (like the septic being cranky... 😆), looking at those trees reminds me how lucky we are! 🤗

Such incredible trees! Hickory is one of my favorites!
#ThursdayTreeLove sounds like my kind of challenge!

I hadn't really paid much attention to Hickory trees until we moved here, and now they're one of my favorites as well! And I think #ThursdayTreeLove has your name all over it, Melinda! 😊
