Walk along the old street of St. Petersburg (Russia)

in GEMS4 years ago

I live in the most beautiful city of Russia - St. Petersburg. I know that there are other beautiful places in the world, but I was born here and this is my hometown. I am proud of this place. And I am also happy that beautiful old houses and quiet streets have been preserved in the city. One of these streets is not far from my office. I walked along it on foot to the subway. I only had my phone, but the day was sunny, so the photos turned out sunny and summer.

This place is located on Petrograd Island. The street is called Bolshaya Pushkarskaya.

This is my favorite building that is visible from this street. There are many old buildings in Petrograd district that look very interesting and unusual. I get the feeling that it was built in several stages. These are residential houses. Apartments inside are arranged differently. Previously, several families lived in such apartments. Now the apartments are redeveloped. But these apartments have very bizarre shapes. My friend lives in one of these apartments. The corridor there has a curved shape, the kitchen is an irregular polygon.

These houses are very beautiful inside and out, but they have flaws. The houses have a very old drainage system, so the pipes are often malfunctioning. The houses also have damp basements. This leads to the smell of dampness. Old walls often have mold. Many people who buy apartments in these houses make major repairs so that the apartment is suitable for living.

Another interesting building on Bolshaya Pushkarskaya street. My attention is attracted by the small blue dome of this building. This is part of the Orthodox chapel. The chapel is called "All mourners Joy"

There is a legend that a boy lived in this house who could not move his legs. A vision came to him in the form of the Virgin. He asked to pray near the icon and healed. Since then, a chapel has been made for the Orthodox

This building is also interesting in that the old part is connected to the more modern part of the building. This building is also interesting in that the old part is connected to the more modern part of the building.

Another interesting building, which is located on Bolshaya Pushkarskaya Street. This is the mansion of Greff, a tsarist civil servant. The mansion is built in a classic style, but later elements of the neo-Gothic were added to it. The mansion has preserved a tower with openwork forging - a web with a spider and a bouquet of flowers.

On the way in the building we see caryatids. This is a very frequent decoration for the buildings of my city.

In the distance we see St. Vladimir's Cathedral. The cathedral was built in 1789, its founder is considered to be Queen Catherine II

Very oddly shaped buildings, indeed but it gives a charming look to the city.
