In so many ways, this is one of the most culturally rich states in the Northeast region of my country (Brazil) and one of the places I most like to visit whenever it is possible. Today, I will take you back there, but the tour will be a little different. No beaches or idyllic locations and instead, a small bath of ancient historical culture.
Cabo de Santo Agostinho is the beautiful destination (with some hidden gems that are incredible and that need to be known by visitors who go there) of this post and what I want to highlight is a special building that breathes history on all sides: the ruins of an old lighthouse keeper's house, which is very popular.
Unfortunately, I was unable to take pictures of the entire place (because access is not so easy anymore and the construction is no longer the same as before, although it is still well preserved), but I will be able to give you all a good perspective of the complete scenario (which is great for those who like history).
However... Before we get to the ruins of the house, I will show you the space around the lighthouse because then you will be able to have a better dimension of the place as a whole.
As you can see, the quadrant is large. The land has a steep formation (which time helps to draw with rain and wind and erosion processes), but it is possible to walk almost all the space smoothly (but with due care, of course). It is an interesting walk to get to know the region in a more intense way.
The fact that there is a good amount of vegetation there is interesting because the place is not so suitable for this to happen. But, when nature wants, it can be born anywhere. The presence of this green helps to make this place more beautiful and more friendly.
This is a introductory sign, which shows a summary (with some very good information / details) of the ruins of an old lighthouse keeper's house. Through it, visitors have sufficient knowledge about the place.
Construction of the end of the 19th century. It is a two-story masonry and granite stones. It had the purpose of housing the lighthouse keeper, depositing material, spare parts and fuel for the lamp.
The lighthouse was shaped like a tripod, its structure was of iron and steel of French manufacture. Its lamp was lit for the first time on May 9, 1882, and dismantled in September 19937. Today, one can see part of its iron pieces embedded in the granite outcrop.
The structure is marked by time with very interesting details, but unfortunately, a good part of its structure has already been damaged by doodles made by people (tourists and locals) who certainly did not have anything better to do. Fortunately, the damage was minimal.
The place is extremely rustic and for those who can use their imagination and historical knowledge, they will surely be able to imagine what life was like in that place, during that time. In addition, the house seems to have been strategically built in a place where it is possible to have a privileged view of the horizon.
In my opinion, what most catches the attention in this construction is its atmosphere. I was looking at the place for a while and trying to teleport to that century and imagine myself there. This was definitely a very interesting ride and it was worth every second.
