There was this famous philanthropist who had a chain of businesses in Aiyelade city. After the day's strenuous work, he usually tries to unwind by strolling along a popular beach situated near his office.
One evening, as he was taking a stroll, a poor old beggar who was a few steps behind him called on him with a trembling voice to give him alms. "Help an old man please", said the beggar to catch up with him, he was moved by the appearance and disability of the beggar.
He fumbled at his pocket and brought out a five hundred naira note. This philanthropist squeezed the money and put it into the beggars hand and then, marched quickly towards his destination. The beggar on looking at the note, was extremely surprised and shocked since no body had ever given him such an amount. He hobbled after his benefactor to return the money to him. "Wait sir!please, wait " the beggar said.
"What is it my man?" replied the philanthropist. "Sir, you have given me a five hundred naira note by mistake, that is what I decided to give you, "said the philanthropist. Unknown to him,a whole bundle of five hundred naira notes had dropped from his pocket when he was giving the beggar the money. The beggar, first thought of taking the money away when he saw it. He quickly grabbed it and kept it under his ragged dress but he was worried and thought he should not be dishonest to someone who helped him with such a big amount of money. The first of its kind since he had been begging.
The beggar looked at the bunch of money again and was extremely surprised and shocked. Alas!, it was a bundle of five hundred pieces of the notes in the pack.

He quickly ran after his benefactor, "Sir, here is also a bundle of five hundred naira notes that slipped out of your pocket".
The philanthropist was surprised that the beggar returned the money to him. He did not only thank the poor beggar but also, gave him an extra five hundred naira note for his honesty.
The rich man dipped his hand into his pocket, brought out the money and said to the beggar, "The first one was for charity while this one is for honesty." He continued and said "old man, I will make sure I give you enough money for your feeding whenever I pass here in the morning." "Thank you sir, I am grateful", the old beggar replied.
Also, the philanthropist ended by giving the poor beggar a piece of advice that "No matter how poor you are, please, continue being honest because honesty is the best policy in life."
Life has a way of paying good for good. There are honest people in the world. And, for the world to be a better place, it requires good and honest people. It's good to be good and honest.
