We last saw our heroes celebrating around a helicopter, in a small valley deep in the mostly unexplored jungles of South America. Lilac, Bruce, and Mike had just captured six extremely dangerous criminals who had tried to steal a newly discovered flower named the Goddess because of its healing powers and almost magical beauty.
If even one of the criminals could be convinced to talk, it might bring down a very powerful ring of criminals, some of them highly placed politicians and corrupt cops.
This story is a sequel to the Deadly Goddess series of posts. While you can read this one first, it will make more sense if you read from the beginning. I can assure you that you will enjoy it more.
"We need to get these guys back to the office." Mike said. "Bruce, Lilac, thank you for your help. You did great!"
Mike then walked back to his own chopper, where his Interpol partner was guarding the prisoners.
"Where to?" Asked Mike.
Lilac thought for a second. "I think we should still go to Lima. I want to see if my politician friend has heard anything that might be helpful. And I'm dying for a pepperoni pizza!"
Bruce laughed. "Lima it is then!"
"Let's go then, I'm starving!"
The two friends climbed into the chopper, and flew over some of the most wild, beautiful terrain on Earth. Upon arriving at the Lima airport, Bruce called a cab.
Soon they arrived at Palacio de Gobierno, and were escorted to Don Pevar's office. Lilac had called ahead, so he was expecting her.
"You may see Mr. Pevar now." Said a professional looking young secretary. She led the way to a luxurious office. Sitting behind a beautifully made oak desk sat a tall, lean man dressed in an expensive suit. The secretary smiled, then shut the door before she left.
"Don! It's so good to see you again!" Said Lilac.
"I'm glad to see you too, Lilac. Are you here for business or pleasure?" Asked Don.
"A little of both. Have you heard any news about a ring of criminals who have the support of some of your colleagues?"
"Let's chat as we eat. Unless you and your friend have already eaten?"
"No, I'm starving! This is Bruce Reed by the way, one of my best friends. Bruce, meet Don Pevar. I already told you he's an old college buddy."
"A pleasure to meet you, Mr. Reed." Said Don. "Lilac, I'm guessing we will be dining on pizza tonight?"
"Am I that predictable?" Asked Lilac. Both Don and Bruce laugh.
They exit the building together, and Don leads them to his Cadillac.
"Don, where are we going?" Asks Lilac when it's obvious that they are leaving the town. Don Pevar, the powerful politician, takes out a small pistol, and points it at Bruce and Lilac.
