This simple, yet striking line that leapt out of a book titled, Revelation of the Veiled, perhaps the oldest Persian treatise on Sufism (mysticism in Islam):
The sun [like spiritual truths] shines on all things but affects them differently according to their degree: it burns or illumines or dissolves or nurtures.
__al-Hijwiri
The author, a mystic goes on to elaborate the art of hearing: the extent of what we extract from things - doubt, knowing, divine love - being in proportion to our stage of inner development.
Strange, how truths that are centuries-old are able to collapse distances (of time and space) to reach us, as well as blur the lines between poetry, philosophy, spirituality...
By association, here’s a reflection from another spiritual master, Meister Eckhart:
When the soul wants to experience something she throws out an image in front of her and then steps into it.
May little be wasted on us 🙏🏼
