I recently had one of the most incredible experiences of my life. For years, writing has been my great passion. One that suddenly awakened in a completely empirical way. And although over time I gained a certain ability, deep down I had that concern about whether what I was doing was right. Because of one of life's things, I ended up discovering literary workshops and I became a regular attendee at those that were held in my city until I reached the point where I felt that I could not learn anything else there.

Some time ago someone had told me about the Onelio Jorge Cardoso center, an institution created with the purpose of training writers. It seemed like a dream, but it was not easy to get into, because writing was my dream, but also that of hundreds of people throughout the country (specifically Cuba).

There I began to prepare myself and with the support of those who were perhaps the two most brilliant young people in the area of literature in Santiago de Cuba @limaescritora and @gaviotawriter I managed to have a small work that was sustainable and could be submitted. The first with her incredible workshop La Cazona Azul which ended up becoming Los Retos de la Ficción where she welcomed young people of all ages who had literature as a real interest. The second with a mentor-student relationship, brother in struggle, let my stories grow in me and filled me with confidence, already from mutual respect and of course my admiration for her work.

When after an arduous revision work by @limaescritora I managed to have my stories as polished as possible I sent them. Great was my surprise when months later they approved my application and well I would begin my journey both spiritual and physical towards the "Mecca" of fiction writing in Cuba.

The process was not easy at all, either because of the economic situation that the country is going through, the climatic disasters and even the institutional changes, every time a date was given to start the course it was cancelled. But so, as the months went by, the selected ones (of almost 200 applicants) were 12 of us who started a WhatsApp group where we got to know each other and talked about our work and also about the sorrows and desire to start the course.

We debated a lot via digital means, we also started the semi-presential classes, fearing that our trip to Havana and the classes at the center would never come to fruition, but when almost a year had passed, the news arrived, finally in January 2025 after many comings and goings the national group arrived at the Onelio center.

The experiences we all lived together were incredible, but that is another story. Would you like to know it?
