It’s this time of the month when I do a regular loan on Kiva.org. This time I chose to support Wachiraporn in Thailand, who needed to borrow funds in order to buy cows to breed, hay bales, vitamins for fattening the cattle, vaccines, cattle feed, and other farming tools she needs to run her cattle farm.
Wachiraporn's story (quoted from from Kive.org):
Wachiraporn is a married woman living with her husband, mother, brother, and sister in a rural community of Surin province, Thailand. The family generally farms jasmine rice as its primary source of income, and she raises cattle to supplement the income.
Wachiraporn is a young farmer who has been running a farm that she inherited from her mother many years ago. Besides rice farming, she takes her cattle to graze on the field every day. Her cattle products include meat and calves, which she mostly sells to farmers, restaurants, and beef stalls in local markets. She also uses their manure as an organic fertilizer to apply to rice fields, which helped her save some money from rice farming expenses.
These agricultural activities allow her to generate income to meet household expenses. However, Wachiraporn needs a loan to support her farming business and continue growing it to increase sales and profits. She desires to expand her farm and wishes that one day in the near future she will be able to run a bigger cattle farm and enhance the market scale to a wider one.
