When I hear people say that they work from Monday to Friday, I actually feel jealous yaknow. You work 5 days a week? That's really awesome to hear. Honestly.
As a nurse, we work from Sundays to Sundays. Round clock. Somebody must be in the hospital to receive emergencies.
The break we get, is majorly dependent on the hospital. Sometimes we get leave. This also is dependent on the hospital.
Nursing is a profession that knows no time. Come to the hospital by 7:30 am for your shift to start by 8am. Going home is solely dependent on the amount of patients in the ward and how busy you were before your time of dismissal.
The actual time of dismissal is by 2pm, but the amounts of patients may make you go home by 4 or 5 pm.
If there are lots of patients, you may end up not handing over by 2pm as you will be busy caring for those patients, even after the arrival of the other nurse. She may assist you, so as to make the hand over of that particular patient, easier.
Most nurses say that the worst place to work is in the Accident and emergency unit but I say; the best place to work is the accident and emergency unit.
Maybe I am weird, but I love it when I actually do something on my own, while I wait for the doctors intervention.
I prefer to have 3 working days, with longer hours than to have to work for 7 days straight with little or no off days.
My preference is because I am already used to working more hours. So, it is not a new thing to me.
The planet is constantly messy and needs someone to clean it up. Though not my profession, I always bring out some time to do this.
