Today, our sweet potato crop has been around for over three months, about 100 days. We are also in contact with brokers so that it can be sold/trade. If we do not have a deal with the broker, we apply water and spray it with boron.
I have noticed that some curators visit my post and may think that it is a normal post, but this is a learning post related to agriculture because if you look at it from this perspective, every country definitely depends on agriculture. Rice, corn, wheat, and vegetables, etc., are related to the agricultural sector, which form part of our daily diet. I hope my learning posts will be considered important and visited.
Today we contacted sweet potato brokers so that we could show them the field and make a deal with them. There is not much sweet potato cultivation in our area, but still, there are five to six brokers available here who buy the crop from the fields and sell it in the markets. Sweet Potatoes markets are found in big cities, and it is sold there, such as Lahore, Multan, Islamabad, and Karachi.
A party has come there and we are having them inspect the field. With the help of Hoe, the ground is being dug up so that the fruits of the sweet potatoes can be seen. They have visited five to six places in the field and checked the Fruiting size. A piece or grain of sweet potato, which is also called a nugget, weighs 400 to 500 grams.
They said that we buy it in three parts:
Rashan Rations, these are clean pieces and their color is red, and the weight of the bag will be about 51 kg. Its rate is Rs 3,000 per bag.
Sweet potato cracks appear, It is called pat in the local language. It does not have weight, but it is put in the same weight bag and its price is Rs 1,100.
Sorted pieces are pieces that are smaller than about 100 grams and are used as seeds. They are sorted and their bag is sold for Rs 700.
After that, another party also inspected our crop and saw the sweet potato bunches. In their opinion, they were underweight. The broker told us that they do not buy pieces less than one kilo, so they advised us to sell to the previous trader. Their second option was to wait for this crop for another 20 days and then sell it when the sweet potato bunches grow big.
Now our decision was to wait for 20 days, and the rate was also quite low at that time. Those who have a good economist know that when the crop starts to sell more in the market, its prices start to fall. So we are waiting for the crop to sell more in the market, and when the sweet potatoes become scarce, their prices will start to increase.
Since our deal did not go through, we now need to water so that the soil can retain moisture because any crop needs water for its growth. For this, I have taken the help of a solar water pump. Now, after about three hours of continuous effort, I was able to fill my field with water. I have to water lightly at the stage and keep its level low, which I have done.
After about three days of watering, boron spray is applied to stop the vines so that the food of these vines starts getting mixed with the fruiting of sweet potatoes and thus the size of sweet potatoes starts increasing further. This is also done with the alum crop, but the sweet crop needs to be sprayed five to six times, then its fruiting is complete.
Sweet potatoes keep increasing their size underground, and after about four months, their size increases to a certain extent, and at that time, it is a favorite for sale. However, if they are given 10 to 15 days, the size can increase further. I am also waiting for the same now.
