Hello hivers this is my first time posting in this community.
I once promised to share more about grasscutter, and today, I am excited to finally do so.
When i was first posted to the grasscutter unit of our farm, i honestly did not think much of it.
At first sight, they appeared shy, quiet, and a bit scary, but as i spent more time with them, i began to notice their unique beauty, gentle nature, and calm behaviour
Grasscutter, also known as cane rates, are fascinating animals to observe. One of the things i love about them is their passion for fresh green grasses, especially maize stalks, sugar cane, pumpkin leaves, elephant grass, and other vegetables.
Watching them eat is such a peaceful sight to behold, as they hold their food carefully with their small paws and munch away so fast yet neatly
Grasscutters are usually kept in pens or cages, which are divided into two sections, which are the room and parlour.
The room is where they rest and sleep, while the parlour is where they eat, this separation helps them
maintain cleanliness and proper hygiene in their pen, thereby keeping healthy.
Grasscutters are also known as social animals because they live in groups of about five called colony or family.
Over time, i became familiar with my grasscutters as they could recognise my footsteps and body scent, and they rushed out for food.
Generally, grasscutters are of great benefits
They are a good source of protein
They are useful in traditional medicine
They contain valuable micronutrients
They are low-fat meat with delicious and unique taste
They are useful for agricultural and scientific research.
Caring for grasscutters has taught me to appreciate not just their economic value but also their calm and peaceful presence and balance.
All pictures are captured and selected from my android phone.
Thanks for stopping by my blog.
