Good day my fellow agriculturists, it's a pleasure to be with you guys again. I'm here with something as usual and I'm sure it's gonna help lots of farmers amongst us who specializes on plantain plantation
Plantain is a carbohydrate giving food which can be used for making cereals(baby food), it could be made into paste, it's also nice when made as fries. Mom usually boils plantain for the family, we do love porridge plantain as well.
Since it is low in sugar and very high in calcuim and fibre, plantain has been recommended by many doctors for diabetic patients, therefore you can agree with me that it is an essential commodity in the market and of very high cost.
In my locality, plantain plantation is what is mostly seen because it is thriving. I can't categorize plantain as being an annual or biennial crop because it grows and matures between a period of 5-7 months. There are plantains I see and shrug my shoulders, this is because they're not appealing to the eyes and may be nutrient deficient.
Let's see how we can successfully own a plantain plantation
- Make a good farm choice: this is the most important choice to make, when siting a location for the plantation, we do not want to choose an average land with low fertility and soil texture, make sure the land hasn't been cultivated recently. It is also important to find out if the land is sloppy or vulnerable to flood.

Apply manure: when the sucker is planted, it is advisable to apply natural manure to the stem so it helps the suckling grow from a tender stage. I wouldn't advise that one applies fertilizers or artificial growth mechanism. Perishable foods that decompose easily can also be applied as they're a major growth enhancer.
Eradicate weeds often: Although plantains outgrow weeds, it is advisable that weeds be removed in a plantain plantation as often as possible. Weeds are unwanted plants and they strive to survive as well, hence they endeavor to help themselves with the nutrients in the soil. These weeds when removed can be used as manure, remember they're perishable.
If the above guidelines and the many others are adhered to, trust me you'll be a successful farmer with bountiful harvest as seen in the picture below...... isn't that a convincing evidence that the plantation plantain is getting the necessary care??

The picture of the plantain is one gotten from a plantain beside my home, the owner of the plantain plantation makes cool money but this is because she invests for the future. I watch her work vigorously, she does employ workers as well. Of course, she had employed the above mentioned steps and there isn't a regret of any sort.
Agriculture is one of the most important and eventful occupation one could ever engage in, our youths who are jobless can go into it and do marvelously well, it isn't stressful as you think. Trust me, it's worth the trial.
Plantain is actually popular in this part of the world and you have shared really helpful tips on how to grow it. Farm choice is really important. The type of land you are to plant it matters. If you choose a poor land, the plantain will not do well. I have seen that from experience
