PHOBIA

in Proof of Brain4 years ago

Phobia means 'fear' literally, but a more in-depth look at it suggests that there is more to it than just fear. We all experience a fear for something or the other, and in some unusual cases, a person can experience fear for multiple things.

A long list of phobia exists, ranging from fear for ridiculous things such as beards to more understandable ones like height. But the one that interests me a lot is [Atichyphobia](https://www.definitions.net/definition/atychiphobia). And this is the real deal.

I believe that having a fear for failure is quite normal. It has its good side only when properly managed.

So, I ask, what are the good sides of managing your Atichyphobia?
  • It keeps you on your toes to evaluate your decisions

  • You amass a lot of information before executing your plan, because you hate to fail.

  • Helps you to realize your mistakes and make you better placed for a better outcome in another trial.

  • Makes you a better person as you stay positive.

But a lot of people would rather not try than to fail, because they hate to hear the word 'failure'. They see not trying as a success, for they see that as the best way to stay away from failure. They would rather keep their money than to invest it. This cancer slowly grows bigger, making them to see failure in every opportunity.

You might ask why the rich keep getting richer and the poor wallow in abject poverty. That is because the rich believe that their success lie in trying new ways to solve the problems of all, either rich or poor. This mindset separates is the silent factor behind natural financial stratification.

Like I said, Atichyphobia is not something bad, what determines what is how you handle it.

Now let me tell you the not-too-good sides of Atichyphobia.

  • It clouds you from opportunities

  • It breeds mistrusts in business relationships

  • Breeds doubt in your abilities

  • Encourages pessimism

When all these set in, success becomes near impossible. You have to stay positive while preparing for the inevitable sometimes. You need back up plans in case you fail, this will minimize any shock or loss. But the most important thing you need to do first is to know your fear and be resolute to tackle it. You don't fight an unknown war.

Let me share a very short story. I know of an Uncle who had worked with a bank for twenty years. And for all the years he worked in the bank, he managed people's investments for them. He comes home everyday to share stories of people's success, but he never thought of being in the league one day. He kept on stashing his money in savings, because he feared that business could collapse. Now twenty years after, his accummulated wealth is just a figure that had been overtaken by inflation. Now that he wanted to invest his money, a new fear has just crept in. And that's the fear of cyber attacks from criminals. While he is battling in a new fear, the Rich keep making hundreds of millions of dollars. Yes, every endeavour has a downside, but the greatest disservice you can do to yourself is not trying it in the first place. If you try, you might succeed or fail. And when you fail, take it as a learning curve to become better. But not trying will never make you succeed.

The choice is yours, whether to turn your Atichyphobia into a limitation or a catalyst to spur yourself to greater glory.
