Power BI - How to Import OData Feed in Power BI

in Proof of Brain2 years ago

In this post, we look at How to Import OData Feed in Power BI. Earlier we learned about how to import pdf file in Power BI desktop. That was one of the simple tutorial and also for those who have the data table into the pdf that would be one method to get it out.

So in this tutorial our topic is related to Odata feed. Which is mostly under regular research of the Microsoft. And they happen to maintain the oData feed related topics through the visual studio too. Let's see what is Odata feed also known as the open data protocol feed.

I assume that you have Power BI desktop installed. Also having the online account would be handy as you would be able to work with the desktop data on the cloud account too. So make sure to have that option. Now next would be making sure to find resource for the Odata feed.

Let's first find out the source for the OData feed. Find the source for the oData link. You can use that as a reference for your data being fetched through such services.

Now let's move to the Power BI desktop. Here are the steps to follow for the data import to Power BI.

  1. Open Power BI desktop.
  2. Click on Get Data button to open the dialog box.

  1. Make sure to click on the oData feed link.
  2. Now give that dialog box the URL of the odata feed.

  1. Click load data and then take into the editor.

Once you load the data then it would be like any other data. But provided the context is how you want it to visualize and how you make the dashboard. That part is independent of the source you are using to fetch the data.

That's it. You have now learned how to import the Odata feed into the Power BI desktop. And the thing is that it would help you fetch the data into the editor. And now you can manage the data properly as well. This would be a good approach for you to work with as well.

Odata is an interesting data format standard if you happen to get a lot of data streams through this it would be worth checking out other tutorials that I have made on this topic on the channel. And you would be able to learn something new along the way.

I hope that those who have benefited from my content please like, share and subscribe to the YouTube channel. That would be much appreciated.A lot of content goes unnoticed because there is not much of the sharing and the likes there for the content. And takes years of the work slow moving. In that case I would recommend you check it out.

I hope this tutorial helps you with importing the OData data into Power BI.
