in Proof of Brain2 years ago

In this post, we look at How to Import XML Data into Power BI. Previously I covered the topic of how to import the files from the folder through Power BI. So we kind of covered the option of making use of the variety of data files being imported through folder.

Now let's take a look at the XML data. And for that you can google for the sample XML files that you want. You can also make use of the Kaggle and other sources for the data importing into the Power BI. Some of that would be a good approach for small data in this case of the tutorial.

So let's import the XML data into the Power BI.

So first thing we are going to be taking a look at the XML data from internet. Here you can check out the file.

Now next thing is go through steps that would allow importing the XML data.

  • Start Power BI desktop.
  • Now click on the "Get Data" button from the Power BI.
  • Now import the XML data file into the process.
  • You can load the data and also work on the same through Power Editor.

  • Now once you load the data. You are back to business.

So basically with the Power BI you can import variety of the XML data that you can find some values. If you think of the other sources there a lot of them can be useful for you to import larger files.Same goes with the XML files that has large size data into it.

For example say you choose to import the multiple files through folder in Power BI. And that folder if contains the XML files of multiple size. You would find that a large size of the files that you would be able to work with. So find out the import from the folder into the Power BI desktop.

I loved how the data from the XML can be imported into the Power BI. It can make a lot of data easy to use and though if there are any things that you would want to edit for refining this data into the tabular data there is also DAX editor that you can find out. I would prefer you to try that one out.

I hope this tutorial helps you with importing the XML data into Power BI.
