Where do I even begin?

It has come to my attention in the last few years that many groups started pushing their agendas. Not a problem by itself, of course. What better thing to use for promotion and "propaganda" than social media platforms. It created these new "jobs" called influencers. The main problem is, ANYONE can be an influencer. Even people who do not know what they are talking about can influence others to think and act like them.

Few examples:

Fitness influencers say you can build your body to the extreme really easy and you can get ripped easy. Well...That is not the case. Not every body is the same, not every person has the same amount of time and getting your body in shape is HARD WORK. On the opposite side of things there is this twisted body positivity (beautiful at any size) saying that obesity is fine and normal, anorexia is fine and normal. Saying things like that, that anyone can read and/or watch, especially kids, teenagers and young adults can create a wrong perception of their HEALTH. Being underweight or overweight both have consequences on your health, your life span and social interactions. We should NOT discriminate against anyone, but saying that you are healthy at 160cm and 160kg or being 170cm and 45kg, and that it does not affect your health is completely wrong.

Another thing I noticed is the "gender movement" saying you can be any gender and you can choose it anytime you want. According to them you can even invent one of your own if you like. Okay,sure,fine...Why not? Do whatever you want with your life, but pushing things like that to other people (again kids,teens...) who are highly susceptible to things they see on social media platforms is not fine. This is me talking as a father of 2 young kids. Boys are boys, girls are girls, always were, always will be. Every man is feminine sometimes, every woman is masculine sometimes. There is no need to invent a gender based on your personal feelings that day. I admit, there are some extreme cases where this is not true, but those are very rare. Imagine telling a young boy of about 5y/o that he can be a girl if he se desires. Does anyone expect a kid to make such decisions, such IMPORTANT decisions when they cant even decide on a shirt they want to wear?

There is this one site that i am not going to name. But it involves getting paid to post your personal life to your subscribers. If i ever saw extreme, this is it. Allowing people to easily engage in pornography just blows my mind. When did we, as people, stop caring about our and others dignity, privacy?

A real life example:

In my 4 y/o sons kindergarten group, some kid watched a video of Squid Game series and he told everyone about it. The whole group started playing "red light, green light" until the teacher intervened. The kid was exposed to this on some social media site on his father phone. It is fully the fathers fault for allowing this. But things like that should somehow be restricted and should not be available on mainstream platforms that even really young kids have access to.

I feel there is no need to write about other examples, you probably understand where i am going with this.

CONCLUSION:

Social media is a great opportunity to engage with people you otherwise would not have a chance to, like HIVE. Talking to people from the other side of the world is just amazing. Learning and hearing about other peoples experiences is wonderful ,but forcing your opinions and agendas on anyone is wrong. Of course, if it stays within the limit of "normal" and not extreme.

The underlying problem does not lay in grown adults who have their opinion formed. The problem is exposing kids to such content because their minds, their thoughts are not fully developed. They are easily INFLUENCED by anything they see. And i hope you can see that exposing them to examples i mentioned earlier can do more harm then good. And i do not think it will get better in the coming years.

I read somewhere:

"We have told kids that they are special and can be anything they want for so long, that we forgot to tell them it is completely fine to be normal and average."

We all want our kids to succeed, but not everyone has to be a special snowflake.

This is the end of my rant as a concerned father.

Thank you for your time and hope you had a pleasant read.

Talk to you soon.

Sort:

4 year olds and Squid Game doesn't sound too safe if you ask me and i have to agree that social media can really have an effect on kids who barely even know how to properly spell some words right. Thank you for sharing your article on this!

Yes it was me on publishox. I think the username is the same. Thank you for your kind comment. I just worked it up a bit here while i waited for points to post.

There are many points to post, as many as the sky, why not try something about feeling obliged to do something, feeling compelled to do something, or wharever :)
