Walking in a Winter Frost

in Proof of Brain2 years ago (edited)

Another chilly day, as we went for another winter walk. The Ratcliffe-on-Soar Power Station was in the distance. It was to be decommissioned but the owner and the government set up a deal to keep it running over the winter. This will hopefully help us through the fuel crisis. It makes a striking photo in the cold atmosphere.

If you look closely there are several cormorants sitting in the trees.

The lake was still frozen in parts. The swans tried their hand at a bit of ice skating. They are not the most graceful birds on ice.

They eventually found some water that wasn't frozen over.

We left bird seed on the posts for the visiting robin and blue tit. They need every bit of food they can during this cold snap.

It started to get colder and the light was failing so we called it a day.

Sort:

Got to the little red breasted Robin and said "Oh my Gawd) out loud. So cute! That is one fine photo you snapped. 👍

This reminds me of one of my favourite poems. "The Darkling Thrush"

Not because there are any Thrushes, of course. It's the one line I still adore to this day:

In blast beruffled plume"

I mean... how cool is that. And your little Robin looks a bit like that :D

Thank you. I will have to check it out now!

Those photos are really good !! i loved the amount of detail that you captured of the birds!

You have done a great job capturing the moments of the birds especially the one with ice. I was trying to take a photo of seagulls the other day but failed... :(

By the way, how are you doing in this cold snowy weather?

It's a bit hit and miss taking photos of birds. They're not very obliging sometimes.

Living in the UK you get used to the bad weather. Unfortunately, there's lots of bugs going round so I've been a bit under the weather. I'm beginning to feel more human now though.
