Pay Attention!! A Simple Human Error is all that's Needed to get Robbed!
Whether you are a newbie or a seasoned Hiver, please read this post and keep your money where it belongs...in your wallet! A simple "." can open the door for someone to take your money!!
I want to share this personal experience with you and hope that in the process, I will prevent you from making the same mistake.
Don't Get Robbed on Hive!
First of all, I want to thank @ecency for the great support I have always received from them and for everything they do to make Hive a better place and make things work smoothly.
But please take note, some individuals will go out of their way to abuse the system and profit from the smallest human error imaginable.
I am building my portfolio on Hive, but I also make a monthly withdrawal of a certain percentage to feel that I can enjoy the fruits of my labour.
I always do these transactions from my wallet using @ecency.
Yesterday, October 30, 2025, I made a withdrawal, following the normal procedure.
After an hour of the money not arriving in Hive-Engine, I started getting concerned. But in all honesty, I didn't know who to contact.
Eventually, I clicked on the @graphene.swap link I found in my transaction. I found my 83 HBD in that account.
Still confused and unaware of my error, I thought there might be a hick-up in the system. I reached out to a friend, and as we went back to my own withdrawal history, found the problem.
During my withdrawal instruction, I typed @graphene.swap instead of @graphene-swap.
In the screenshot below you can see what I am talking about from my own history if you can compare my last instruction to the previous ones.
Proof of Where My Money is.
Here is proof of what I found in the account where I found my money to be kept.
I clicked on the link I found in my withdrawal instruction.
This took me to this account, with no posts published since it's creation in January 2022.
I opened the wallet to this account...and there is my money!!!! Thank you Hive for the transparency on this platform!!
There is an individuals name I found in withdrawals from that account, but I am not sure if I can share that in this post, as I do not want to get an individual in trouble if innocent. But it seems like money is flowing from here to that account and one other where I also saw suspicious transactions.
If there is anybody who can advise me as to what I can share or publish and what not to help others or prevent them from making the same mistake as I have, I would highly appreciate that.
Maybe it can also help identify a guilty party and eliminate them from Hive before they can be up to more mischief.
Well, I hope this post is helpful and that it be be a warning to all of us to be extra careful.
Thanks for reading my post!
Jaco- I'm so sorry this happened. I'm really hoping that this post can help others to stay alert too and hopefully avoid this same situation!
It's a good warning for everyone to always be on alert with all kinds of financial situations - especially crypto!
It's really unfortunate that someone would create an account so similar - in the hopes that they can just steal money!
When I look at that account - it looks like he has done this to three other Hivians - and each time - he transferred the money to his actual account @mahmood.mes without returning it.
People who thrive on the misfortune of others will eventually get what's coming to them.
So sorry for you, Jaco!
Thank you for all your support, @dreemsteem! It means a lot to me! More than you can imagine.
Yes, it's sick to think there are people who are doing this. And yes, I have also looked at those payments he transferred,
But do you know what? My Father is more powerful than him and I will get more back than what was taken from me!
I totally agree with you. I have so many things going through my mind at this moment... I need to illuminate some and focus more on others, but I will come out better on the other side...
Greetings @jacoalberts ,
So sorry to hear you have lost funds.
Thank you for taking us through the process of the investigation of its whereabouts.
Here's hoping you will be able to recover them.
Kind Regards,
Bleujay
Thank you for stopping by and reading my post, @bleujay! I just hope it will prevent this from happening again to anybody else.
I surely hope I'll be able to recover the funds, thank you!
Have a great day!
Like you, i heard someone transfer his fund mistakenly to wrong address as he write wrong spell for binance and i don't know who are people who make such accounts...
Yes, they focus on such microscopic error that can be so small you don't realise it. Sorry to hear about your friend as well
He wasn't my friend, i don't know him but i feel sorry for him just like i feel sorry for you too
This is really sad
In this case, would be able to recover the fund? And how possible?
I have no idea, @jesus-son. It doesn't look like that so I don't want to get my hopes up...
it would be nice if somekind of protection against this would be build in to the blockchain sort of 2fa in a way that it checks if you made transfers before to that account or not or if that account is flagged for some reason .

One needs to be extra careful in cross checking before making a final transaction. This is a lesson and warning to us. Thank you for sharing this experience and so sorry for the loss, too.
