The large hadron collider installed in the European CERN laboratory in Geneva, Switzerland, has investigated the properties of this boson since 2012, including its interaction with other particles or their associated fields, and at the moment everything was going according to the model's predictions. standard, but what they have discovered now is something that does not fit, the theoretical prediction is that a Higgs Boson should decay occasionally and when it does it should produce a photon which is a particle of light and a Z boson which is a particle already known that it has no charge and that together with the two W bosons transmit the weak nuclear force or weak interaction.




This is one of the four fundamental forces of nature and is responsible for the radioactive disintegration of subatomic particles. Humans have learned to use it in, for example, nuclear fission reactors, It turns out that the standard model predicts that about 15 times for every 10,000 decays of the Higgs Boson a Z boson should decay into a Light photon, however researchers have discovered that this does not occur every 15 times out of 10,000 but rather occurs 34 times. of every 10,000 disintegrations.


It seems like something minimal, however, for a physicist, it is a crack that indicates the path to something unknown. An explanation that researchers have suggested would be in the theory of supersymmetry, which at the moment is something hypothetical, but which is a fundamental part of many models. theorists among them superstring theory that generalizes string theory whose most basic part assumes that subatomic particles, everything that makes up the world in which we live, those particles, are actually vibrational states of a more basic extended object called a string. or filament, that is, all the particles in the universe would be the same type of fundamental string and what makes them different and what gives them their properties is their way of vibrating.




The theory of supersymmetry is still hypothetical, but this crack discovered through the Higgs Boson could perhaps lead us to get proof that it is real.


These enormous and very expensive devices have a higher importance, they have allowed us to study and master the properties of particles, we have built the electronic world that surrounds us, it did not happen overnight, true, it took scientists time to achieve control, for example, the electron and there are still things we don't know about it, but imagine what we could do if we master the Higgs Boson, a particle that influences creating the mass of the rest of the particles.
