El candado como cualquier instrumento tiende a deteriorarse, con el uso se ensucia, se corroe, esto sucede por su exposición en diversas condiciones de ambiente y del clima, como: Frío, lluvia, polvo y calor entre otros, de esta manera el candado pierde su calidad.
Aún con el paso del tiempo y debido a nuestra tendencia deseamos que todo dure para siempre, esto es imposible, pero podemos hacer que un candado dure por mas tiempo rindiendo normalmente, esto podemos lograrlo mediante un mantenimiento adecuado lubricándolo por ejemplo. Tomemos las siguientes recomendaciones.
En primer lugar podemos limpiar el candado con aire a presión para quitar el polvo de su interior.
Después de esto podemos proceder a lubricarlo, debemos hacerlo en la cerradura y en el arco, en el mecanismo del interior, debemos aplicar lubricante en todas las partes que exista fricción, no debemos excedernos aplicando lubricante.
Para esparcir el lubricante dentro del mecanismo y la cerradura, luego de limpiar y lubricar debemos insertar la llave, abrir y cerrar varias veces.
Por último debemos dejar secar el candado y utilizar con normalidad.
En algunos casos en los que el candado permanece por mucho tiempo expuesto al aire libre, ante lluvias, temperaturas y polvo, tiende a oxidarse, en estos casos conviene hacer un tratamiento para quitar el óxido ¿Como lo hacemos?, aquí podemos utilizar el viejo truco de la coca cola. Sumergimos el candado en coca cola por una 24 horas, luego dejamos secar y procedemos a lubricarlo. La coca cola es un ácido muy fuerte que quita el óxido de manera efectiva.
