Ouagadougou or Ouaga for short is the capital of Burkina Faso. Formerly the French Colony called the Upper Volta. It is a landlocked country of about 20 million people in West Africa. It is bordered to the south by Ivory Coast, Ghana, Togo, Benin, and Nigeria. To the East by Niger, and Mali to the north. It gained its independence in 1960 but has had a rocky history of Coup after Coup. There was even one about 5 months after my visit in June 2014.

I had a great trip there and felt very safe and welcomed by people. I spent one major day looking around the city with a guide on a motor bike. His name was name was Razo and we still communicate sometimes on facebook. If you are every going to Ouaga I can link you.

Our first stop after getting picked up in the morning was the city center. There are a number of statues here of historically important Burkina's and an art piece monument in thee middle of a round about. The small horseman in the hand is a representation of the Mossi (pronounced Moshi) people who are said to be excellent horse people.
Traffic is shared between cars, motorbikes and horses.
Not far beyond the roundabout is a large square and monument to Burkina Independence.
Continuing on the same road the road is lined by topped trees. But they have all been intricately carved.

The next stop was the Museum of Music. It was inside a beautiful building. I love domes and earth feel to the colors and shapes. The museum show cased a lot of musical instruments.
We were back on the road again for the next destination.
We arrived at an open area with a few very unique buildings around. We were at the National Museum. Each building housed exhibits. One with masks and costumes, another with artifacts some very old.
After the museum we made our way to the art center. Razo is also an artisan here from a family guild of bronze casters. There was a lot of great art in all different forms. there.
After that I went to the hotel to rest a bit before the evening.
That night I went out with Razo on the town to a number of crazy little clubs. One rooftop chill place, a bar that was filled with women dressed as men doing Micheal Jackson lip sinking and dancing, and then one somewhat normal place. But the beer was good and cold. This is the national beer Brakina.
