You are right about the "personal level", I was thinking more about the "social level" and how much we as individuals could influence the way where society is moving... Lately, with all the propaganda and fake news, people can't do anything when the "game is rigged"...

Even here the amount of our influence is based on some factors (which can vary widely depending upon the individual). But thankfully the system is not rigged, and we all have a chance to do as much good as we want to invest our time in :)
