This reminds me of the philosophical dilemma between one and many. In Christian theism, the doctrine of creation resolves this tension. The reason why both uniformity and diversity exist in the realm of nature is because Someone beyond and above nature exists as both One and Many.
Right, I sometimes try to picture it as two sides of the same coin. But it can be hard practically to behold the coin without getting fixated on one side, so to speak. In terms of sequencing, I think uniformity comes first then diversity. Makes more sense on a practical level too. One, then many. Many, then one, usually happens via deconstruction or retuning back to a source. Well, I might have been a bit too much abstract here.
