Al ver a la enorme araña di un sobresalto y perdí la concentración en lo que estaba pensando, sentí como si algún tipo de líquido entrara muy lentamente a través de mis colmillos y subiera hacia el cerebro adormeciendo mi cabeza como cuando uno toma una bebida helada muy rápido. La dimensión del cuarto cambió súbitamente, las líneas rectas de la construcción se hicieron curvas, aparecieron manchas de colores brillantes por todas partes mientras un sabor amargo en mi boca y el estomago revuelto me hicieron sentir nauseas. De pronto un tremendo golpe en la cabeza me despertó por unos segundos para luego volver a dormirme.
Cuando desperté estaba acostado en la enfermería con suero conectado directo en la vena. Los gritos de afuera se alcanzaban a oir hasta donde estaba.
-¿Como se te ocurrió llevar a un candidato al área de entrenamiento mental?-
-Era solo para que viera a Laura en el simulador matemático, pero él volteó a ver a la araña-
-Aún Laura está muy lejos de manejar la interface, considere cerrar esa ventana hasta nuevo aviso-
-Creí que el candidato tenía aptitudes, ya había visto a la araña y no presentó ningún síntoma-
-¿Ya se le olvidó lo que le pasó al último que presentó "actitudes"? En cuando despierte mándelo a su habitación, déle un somnífero y que se presente a entrenamiento físico en la piscina mañana muy temprano. Y cierre esa ventana!-
Después de la discusion, la entrenadora entro a la enfermería visiblemente molesta
-Ya se que estás despierto así es que no me hagas perder el tiempo-
-Creo que sería mejor si me explicara de que se trata-
-No debo, pero voy a tratar de explicarlo para ti de tal forma que no falte a ninguna de la reglas. Primero, esta araña no es de por aquí, así es que no debes esperar encontrar ninguna de ellas en otra parte. Segundo, esta araña en particular es prácticamente puro cerebro, por lo que es my difícil controlarla y tercero, cualquier tarea que se te asigne la debes realizar aunque te parezca monótona o aburrida, ese entrenamiento es necesario para que subas a los demás niveles, la experiencia que logres ahora te va salvar la vida mañana-
-No se si te habrás dado cuenta, pero me estás dejando con mas dudas que antes, así ¿Como podré dormir?
-Ah, por supuesto que dormirás, ya lo verás-
Enseguida me sacó de la enfermería y me llevó al área de almacén.
-Ponte esto y sígueme-
Caminamos por un largo pasillo hasta llegar a donde se encontraba una puerta tan fuerte como la bóveda de un banco. Al entrar noté que el clima era mucho mas frío que afuera. Bajamos unas escaleras de metal y nos situamos enfrente de un área tan grande como una cancha de fútbol. En ella había como veinticinco simuladores arácnidos, cada uno con dos operadores en entrenamiento.
En eso una de las unidades se detuvo, de ellas salieron un sujeto y una chica visiblemente cansados y desidratados además de vomitando mientras se detenían de la baranda.
-Observa, eso chicos tienen poco menos de seis meses de entrenamiento físico, lógico, matemático, psicológico y mecánico, solo estuvieron dos horas en el simulador y parece que se van a desmayar. En la verdadera misión van a estar tres meses completos dentro de esos trajes, deberán estar completamente concentrados día y noches a relevos.-
-Lo dices como si si entrenamiento estuviera a punto de terminar, pues ¿De cuanto tiempo consta el entrenamiento completo?-
-Se supone que un año, pero ya debimos tener al menos un operador completamente entrenado y aún estamos muy lejos como puedes ver. Ustedes son del segundo de tres periodos de entrenamiento-
-Y los demás campos de entrenamiento ¿Cómo les esta yendo?-
-Es lo peor, hasta ahora ningún país a producido ningún operador científico. Solo Japón ha reportado tener uno, pero se necesitan dos por cada unidad de cincuenta que debemos llenar a nivel mundial y las naves debe despegar en dos años-
-Espera, ¿Qué naves?-
-Creo que ya hablé demás, lo mejor es que te vallas a dormir porque mañana empiezas tu entrenamiento en la piscina. Lo que te voy a inyectar esta hecho del mismo veneno paralizante que tiene la araña, pero muy diluido, te servirá para dormir profundamente-
Casi inmediatamente me quedé dormido, pero apenas un minuto después me estaban despertado.
-¿Qué pasa?-
-Valla que si dormiste profundamente, estuviste dormido tres días-
-¿Qué?

-How did you come up with taking a candidate to the mental training area? -

We walked down a long corridor until we reached a door as strong as a bank vault. Upon entering I noticed that the weather was much colder than outside. We go down some metal stairs and stand in front of an area as large as a soccer field. There were about twenty-five arachnid simulators in it, each with two operators in training.
At that one of the units stopped, a subject and a girl visibly tired and dehydrated emerged from them, as well as vomiting while they stopped from the railing.
-Observe, these guys have just under six months of physical, logical, mathematical, psychological and mechanical training, they only spent two hours in the simulator and it seems they are going to faint. In the real mission they will be three full months in those suits, they will have to be completely concentrated day and nights in relays.
