A Different Perspecitve of the Louvre in Paris

in Proof of Brain3 years ago

Continuing our tour through Paris, the Louvre is of course a must see for tourists and residents alike

You probably already saw lots of pictures and impressions of this place filled with art and wonders. So I thought about giving you a bit of a different perspective.

The "Louvre" resides in the Louvre castle, the former residence of the french kings and is absolutely huge. It takes a couple of days to see everything if one does not want to rush through the place (and a lot longer if one really wants to take time to appreciate the exhibits). This is one of the L shaped arms:

Looking up is often rewarded by a spectacular display of art. It must of taken forever to create those ceilings...

This is a famous Winged Victory of Samothrace which symbolizes the Greek goddess Nike. Hard to believe that it is more than 2000 years old... Unfortunately the head has been lost

And then of course there is the Mona Lisa that doesn't need an introduction as being probably the most famous painting in the world. But did you know that (before Corona) the room looked like this?

It is quite humorous to think that so many people try to get a glimpse of a painting that is much better visible online. The painting is quite small and behind a glass frame which makes it difficult to see and appreciate it. Probably nowadays it is somewhat more comfortable to view it as there will be social distancing, but it probably takes forever to get a spot...

Perhaps it is famous now simply because it is famous... Would it stand out against the many other art works if one wouldn't know about it?

Heck with COVID, we were scheduled to visit Paris in May this year. However, we are looking forward and waiting for the resumption of flights. Your post makes me even more curious. A wonderful collection!

Nice read. Come to think of it, who knew that the Monalisa was that small lol. I thought it would be much bigger than that. Oh well, maybe I will stick to viewing it online.
