Maize/corn is a plant that is general and common to every human and animal race, both human beings and other animals eat maize,the only diffent is human prepare thier food before eating and in some cases we eat it raw too, but in maize, almost all human prepare it before eating.
Maize π½ is can be eating as maize or prepared in other forms to form another type of food. The funny part of it is that it has no waste at all. No part of maize is useless.
What you called a waste after processing is another source of food.
Maize is a season plant and it most survive in rain season,some people plant it in dry season too but it has to be wet always so that it will not dry off because of the waether.
We target rainfall to plant maize. some apply fertilizer while some dont, the use of fertilizer depend on how good the soil is. Nigeria is the largest producer of maize in africa. it can be in different colors but white is most common, yellow, brown, light brown and ash are other colors available.
How to plant maize π½
we plant maize seeds in 2s 3s or 4s, and we space maize atleast 2 feet or 50-80cm, in some cases we make ridges for maize and when we have good soil we can plant ordinarily.
Survival
maize survive in almost all type and kinds of soil especially sandy soil and loamy soil but and except clay soil. It doesnt requir much of fertility to survive.
What kills maize π½
insects,deseases are more dangeriouse for maize to grown. other small animals like bush rat,squarrel and more eat maize in the soil and affect its growth. fungi and bacterials also affect the growthe of maize.
Solution to above mentioned problems
we use insecticide on maize to prevent attacks.
Use of maize π½
It serves as food for livestocks and humans when cooked
,
roasted,grinded to make dry flower
,grinded to make pap,grinded to make starch, cornmeal, grits, starch, flour, tortillas, snacks, and breakfast cereals.
waiste serve as food for goats and other animals in nigeria.
Maize is ready for consumption between 2-3 months of growth. When the maize is ready for consumption we get to know by looking at the tassel which will change color from pink to ash.
Maize can fall if the wind is strong because the root is not deep into tjhe soil.
maize can be stored as a whole or as grains but better stored dry.
