It has been a while since I did a drum cover, but I am going to try to do more of the Drumeo collaborations this year. The latest course I have been doing there is on sight-reading. That sounds a bit boring, but it is a useful skill for musicians as you can play along straight away if you have the music in front of you. Drumming has its own notation (tab) where the various drums are mapped onto the musical stave with special symbols to indicate different hits. This course has some fun tunes to play along with that include various techniques. You need to look ahead to see what is coming up.
This song is the 'classic' Achy Breaky Heart by Billy Ray Cyrus. It might not be my first choice, but it is a fairly simple song to play. I pretty much sight-read this as I did not get around to practicing it much. The performance is a little scrappy, but I submitted it for inclusion in the community video.

I was recording my Tama Club Jam kit with my Yamaha EAD10. I had my 3d-printed trigger unit plugged in, but the bass sample is not that audible. I need to experiment with levels, but the overall sound is not bad. I just have to combine the audio from that with the backing track and the video from my phone that requires a little guesswork in the Kdenlive video editor.

I found a phone mount to 3d-print that could fit on a proper tripd. This gives me more options of where to set up the camera. Actually I printed it and then found it did not fit my particular tripod, but I was able to find a flat mount that I could print and glue on.
I have not used 3speak in a while and it has seriously improved! Firstly you can log in with Keychain and then the editor is much better with full preview. Before I would often compose the post in peakd and copy it over. You can also select a thumbnail from the video instead of having to upload an image. Well done to the developers.
Rock on!

Love your kit Steeve! How do the neighbors feel about your playing? 😀
We are lucky not to have close neighbours so no complaints yet. I only really play the acoustic kit when my other half is out.
I decided a small kit was enough for my needs and it fits in the room next to my Roland one. It's easy to take to gigs when I do play.
3D printing: love it, but rarely do it. Your need, a connector for your tripod - well, you can also check Temu or Ali Expres. They sell these influencer trips for phones and cameras with all you need connectors, for super cheap. Ok ok ok, perhaps you printing is inexpensive as well, since you have your own printer. Ok, nough said. You do your thing! 🙏
Drumming: Peeps tell me, practice practice practice is key. You doing nicely! The sound of the drums could be a little downtuned in the recording to blend in better. But but but, great job!
Yamaha thingy: I thought of two things when I first set eyes on the photo: 1) some out-of-the-world coffee machine, 2) 3D printer, but why Yamaha? Obviously, none of both 😆
Once you have a 3D printer you will see solutions. It took a couple of hours to print the tripod mount and it cost pennies. There are lots of items you can customise to your needs. I've never used Temu.
With any instrument you will improve by playing more. I try to do a little each day. One advantage of drums is that you can practice rhythms anywhere. I sometimes tap them out with my feet under the desk at work.
The Yamaha EAD10 is a very clever thing. The box on the bass drum has two microphones and a trigger. It connects to a control box that can take more triggers to set off samples and it can apply effects as well as recording. It's simpler than setting up mics all around the kit and good enough for my needs. Actually getting the ideal sound is a whole other skill. If you buy the trigger units they cost from $/£/€50, but cost a lot less to make.
Getting tight with the beats! Sounding good. Loving those 3d printing projects you're doing. I've been considering learning. Since seeing all your 3d Print projects I keep coming up with ideas for cigar box guitar projects with 3d Printed parts.
Sounding good brother... Keep at it.
If you can get into designing things then I can see it could be really compelling. There's potential to sell designs or printed items. I need to find time for that.

BEER.Hey @the-bitcoin-dood, here is a little bit of
BEERfrom @steevc for you. Enjoy it!Do you want to win SOME BEER together with your friends and draw the
BEERKING.Massive shout out! Good to see you on the drums , big massive THANK YOU for helping too being a newbie all over again. I also see the 3D printing which i'm a bit curious about, because i have never really understood how it works so I'll be having a look at that cos I saw in one of your other videos an instrument that sounded much like a recorder but pocket sized, pretty cool actually. Hope your weeks goes well and thank you again for the help you gave me :)
Cheers! I just play for fun, but I get a lot out of it. I hope to play some gigs this year with my friends. I used to be mainly guitar, but am enjoying the drums.
3d printers have become more simple lately. Mine (Bambu Lab A1) was fairly cheap and you can just select items to print from the app. The ocarina was a very clever design that came out well. I need to find time to learn to play it better.
Really enjoyable cover, some really nice gear you have and the 3d printed stuff looks good and assists you very well.
glad to see 3speak has also improved, it has been a very long time since i last used it but will look into using it going forward with its keychain login and easier process.
Thanks. I've got all the gear I need really, but being able to just print little accessories is handy.
3speak needed to improve as it was a little clunky before. It really needs to be as easy as Youtube.
My friend, the important thing is that you have the desire. And reading at first sight is a matter of practice; when you least expect it, you'll be doing it just right, and while you read, ha ha ha... I know musicians who have been on stage with me who, when they arrive, I just give my sheet music to and they read and play. Regarding 3speak, you're absolutely right, its interface has improved a lot and there's no doubt that it offers us a better experience. I encourage you to continue sharing your drum studies with us and thus share your progress. Well, I'm just saying, ha ha ha... 😁
Part of the reason I do these videos is to track my progress. I can look back and see how far I've come. I'm no pro, but I'm having fun.
You have to have fun, bro. Always! One of the principles I follow when I make music is to have fun. Enjoy the process, the studio, and my progress. Although I must confess that sometimes I feel like I'm on a roller coaster where my emotions don't really accompany me, but that's another story, ha ha ha... I'm glad you're sharing with us, and from now on I'll be paying more attention to those videos. Cheers! 🤘
Did not take you for a country man! cheers mate
It's not what I might listen to, but it tends to be fairly simple drums.
3speak is looking really good now.

BEER.Hey @meno, here is a little bit of
BEERfrom @steevc for you. Enjoy it!Did you know that <a href='https://dcity.io/cityyou can use BEER at dCity game to buy cards to rule the world.
you are pretty good, i like how you play drums, i could never do this
I think a lot of people could play an instrument if they took the time and some lessons. It took me a while to get this far and I still have plenty to learn.
we never end to learn, on anything hehe
Very cool. I like that you are able to print all of this neat gear for your equipment. I actually think that Could've Been Me is a better song by Billy Ray, but Achy Breaky Heart and Old Town Road get all the hype.
I'm not really into country, but I had an excuse to play this one. Some of my pub jam friends are and one played this song last time.
I keep an eye out for printable drumming items. I've found a few so far and some time I'll try designing my own.
Nice work on the cover!
