WELCOME FUNGI LOVERS
πππ
For todays Fungi Friday by @ewkaw i got a large photo series of a tree fungi called Tinder Bracket, Fomes Fomentarius for you to enjoy. This inedible fungus is found mainly on beech trees, it develops hoof-shaped whitish-gray fruiting bodies, once used for tinder. The mushrooms can get from 8-40 cm wide and have a tough, zoned surface and woody tan flesh. They contain a granular "core" and brownish pores underneath. It's a perennial species thriving on various deciduous trees, living or dead, like beeches, birches, and more. I found and shot the fellas you're about to enjoy on a beech tree for this article. That's what my little research brought to light, but as always, if you recognise this fungi and know better, feel free and correct me by writing it in the comments.

FUNGI FACTS:
The majority of a mushroom's body, is made up of tiny, thread-like structures called hyphae, which are found underground. These hyphae are responsible for breaking down dead plant material and recycling nutrients back into the soil.

Last but not least a very beautiful and not so grey specimen looking like Donald Duck's beak in this shot.
What a nice texture. His best dress for the shooting!
And now we say good bye with a funny face. Isn't this a cutie?!
