It's time for a city mushroom for this #fungifriday
Right in the middle of downtown Chicago grows a mushroom consistently every year.
It is definitely some kind of ganoderma, but what subspecies I do not know...
There are many to choose from like curtisii, sessile, applanatum and a few others.
People walk by this thing without noticing it. I suspect its varnished finish makes it Ganoderma sessile. It is a nice medicinal mushroom.
Here is one I found in the suburbs that has dried out.
This is it a few weeks earlier. Most ganoderma have some kind of medicinal anticancer properties in them if used as tea or in tinctures.
I didn't find much else this week other than this bicolor bolete. Sadly it was small and spindly with only a few of them around. Not enough for a meal.
I always stop for photos of these bicolors because of their nice red velvet cap color.
That's all for now, thanks for looking :-) More mushrooms soon...
😍
I'll check in on it tomorrow, should be shiny red by now.
