Hello everyone!
I wanted to make the First Children's Assembly of original songs and dances in honor of Vuk Karadžić, which is also the name of the school where I work. I achieved that. I didn't think for a long time about what to call that maifestation, that festival. I immediately said that it would be called "Rose of Todorova."
The director and colleagues supported me in that idea, so there were many participants at the festival. I organized everything in the spirit of Serbian tradition. My colleagues and I put on Serbian costumes. The participants were also in the traditional spirit. There were fiddlers, flute players, ethnic groups, and the Cultural Art Society of our school.
Due to bad weather, this festival was held in the sports hall for physical education, and the sales exhibition was in the school hall.
Developmentally disabled children who live in a home in Sremčica, the association of creative women, the association of pensioners were also invited to the festival, and they exhibited their works of art in the hall. The most attention of the guests, of which there were many, was attracted by the craftsman who makes miniatures by hand.
At the end, all participants of the program received certificates of appreciation handed to them by our students, members of the Student Parliament. The photographer who was hired had a lot of work, as did the videographer of the entire program.
I must also mention that most of the participating musicians agreed to come to the festival for free, even though they all live far from Belgrade.
Why Ruza Todorova?
Most of you who follow me know that I am a teacher. I work in a school called "Vuk Karadžić" and it is interesting that I was born in Loznica, and 6 kilometers from Loznica, there is the village of Tršić, where this Serbian great was born.
Vuk is known for the reform of the Serbian script-alphabet, for the fact that he collected proverbs, folk tales, riddles, poems, for his acquaintance with Dositej Obradović, Karađorš, Miloš Obrenović, with Jernej Kopitar, the Grim brothers, for his participation in the 1st and 2nd Serbian uprising... and not to list more.
Few people know that Vuk Karadzic's first love was called Ruza. Her father's name was Todor and no one recorded her last name, because everyone called her Ruza Todorova. They loved each other, but they couldn't be together. The wolf fell ill, one of his legs became dry due to the disease, so he walked with a stilt. That's why he was ashamed to appear in front of Rose. He never returned to his Tršić. He got married, had many children, who unfortunately died at that time due to illness, but the only ones left were daughter Mina and son Dimitrije.
Ruža also got married and had two sons. The wolf met them. He corresponded with Ruža almost until his death.
He died in Vienna, and was buried in Belgrade in the gate of the Sabornr church, next to Dositej Obradović, the first Serbian minister of education, Vuk's best friend and first teacher.
I hope that next year we will repeat all this and that the festival will become traditional
