HELLO HIVE
When we have to work or study online without any alternative route to it, there's an uphill task to stay on the app we are using. Navigation on devices has become so easy with the development of advanced tech devices, and now you can easily navigate from one part of the device to another, making two actions.
It makes it easier to move away from our intended point of action to another before we can even think twice, and once we are there, it becomes very difficult to navigate our way back because our mind has found something it was longing for while we were trying to starve it of that the whole time.
It is very difficult to stay grounded to our intended plans if we have not reached high levels of discipline; one minute you think you're doing so well, and then you go out of direction before you know it.
I don't think there is an actual true working principle to have and maintain that level of discipline once you've been exposed to so many things like movies, sports, and reels on our devices, except for one who hasn't been exposed to it.
The best plan during my school is to have a hard cover of what you're planning to study and then put your device on airplane mode, but even at that I think it's more of a physiological thing because the same hands that were used to put the phone on airplane mode would end up removing the phone from airplane mode once the conviction is not strong.
Some friends of mine in school would just drop their Android devices in the hostel and just come to the library with a small, old bottom device that can only make calls and nothing else.
The ability to stay so focused on what I am doing, avoiding what is going on in my device, is something I have always hoped I could build because the time spent on these places is mostly wasted and would have been more productive if we had spent that time doing something else, even if it is chopping carrots. 😂🤣.
I know many would probably hope that I would come up with a topic like 5 ways to stay focused 😂, but then what use would this content be if the whole idea is fictional without any form of value to the reader? But even at that, I will drop two things that I believe should help to an extent. It might not be very effective like we hope it would be, because if there was an effective approach out there, I would take it with both hands, but then I have two hacks.
The first hack is knowing my strength in this regard; that way, I would be able to come up with something more feasible, and since I know myself as someone who can easily be drawn by the icons of these apps, I would just freeze any app that I know would be difficult for me to pass by without checking in.
You can make use of the app freezer that is available on most Android devices. When I do this, I hardly remember having some of these apps on my phone until I am done with what I am doing.
I also turn off notifications from most of these apps that I couldn't or didn't freeze because once you get a notification on the screen, you're tempted to open the app.
Breaks in between help a lot too; you should get fresh air once in a while.
