I opened the app this morning to write a quick post, and oh well, something felt different. The layout. The fonts. The spacing. Even the way the text sits on the page. It’s sleeker now. Like the designers collectively decided to take a deep breath and let go. Don’t get me wrong, I love a good clean-up, but now, I'm just like, “Oh? We’re minimalist now?”
The new writing space feels... lighter. The toolbar’s less crowded, the font breathes more but where's my real-time PREVIEW?? I loved how the old one leaves no room for formatting surprises that make you look like you forgot how markdown works.
Here's the thing, with every new shine comes a little bit of chaos. Why, for instance, do all the buttons suddenly look like they’re shy? The “publish” button used to scream, “Click me!” Now it kind of whispers. I had to squint for a second like, “Wait, where did it go?”
I get the aesthetic, they’re going for that modern, neutral vibe, but sometimes function has to win over fashion, you know?
But I honestly love that autosave has gotten smoother. It’s nice not living in constant fear of losing paragraphs to bad Wi-Fi. But there’s still that tiny panic moment when you’re not sure it actually saved. A little “auto-saved successfully” pop-up wouldn’t hurt, Ecency. Let a writer sleep in peace.
I'll also love an undo & redo button. THIS!!
Also, the wallet area, I'm so confused but oh well, I'll get the hang of it soon too.
Now, the mobile version, I’ll give credit where it’s due, it’s cleaner, loads faster, and doesn’t make my thumbs feel like they’re playing hide and seek with the formatting buttons. But also, can we talk about how some of the menus just moved? Like, excuse me? Where did my tags go? Why am I suddenly doing a scavenger hunt mid-draft? I appreciate innovation, but not when I’m trying to fix a typo on a moving train. 😂😂
All that said, I do appreciate the direction Ecency’s heading. It feels more intentional. The writing experience is smoother, the layout kinder on the eyes, and the overall vibe just… calmer. It’s giving “we want you to enjoy being here,” and honestly, that matters. It's really hard getting used to, though. For example, I still had to go to the classic editor for this post, and I really appreciate them leaving that option there too.
Still, I kind of miss the boldness of the old look. The buttons that popped. The slightly chaotic charm. Maybe it’s nostalgia, or maybe I just like my interfaces a little loud and unapologetic. Either way, Ecency’s glow-up is growing on me. I just hope they don’t polish away too much personality in the process.
Anyway, that’s my digital rant of the day. Ecency, you did well, but next time, warn a girl before you rearrange the furniture. 😂
