The times I have worked with wood my fear has always been to overdo it when cutting or sanding, at least for me it is always better to work calmly and little by little until you find the right point that you need because in the end if you do it wrong and in a hurry it ends up being much more problems.

That's why the mantra of woodworking is "measure twice, cut once". You can always cut more, but you can't never undo a cut.
