Hello friends, I'm excited to be part of this beautiful community.
My name is Georgeneer Ihuoma Jonas. I hail from Isalangwa North Local Government area in Abia State, which is located in the Eastern region of Nigeria.
I am from a family of six and the second daughter of my parents. I have a sister and two brothers. I lost my mom about six years ago. She managed high blood pressure from the moment she gave birth to me till evening she died. I miss her very much because she was my best friend. Life without her hasn't been so easy because she was a strong support system from my childhood till I also became a mother myself.
I got married in 2016 to a supportive and understanding husband and I have been blessed with two beautiful daughters. My mother's death dealt me the greatest blow because it caused changes in my life. I have had to step in the role of caregiver to my dad, quitting a good paying secular job , relocating with my husband and kids to be closer to him, and making sacrifices for my family. Although it hasn't been easy, it has helped in my journey with self discovery.
I have been on a compulsory sabbatical for about 5years until this year April, I decided to return to teaching. I am a Certified Teacher by profession with over a decade in years of experience and I love working with children especially from ages 8 to 14. I specialize in teaching Literacy and Creative Writing, helping children articulate their ideas and thoughts meaningfully and in an organized form. I consider working with children a way of giving back to the society, helping them learn to develop themselves and have a positive impact thereby becoming global citizens. When I teach, I guide my learners to connect their learning to the real world, integrating technology and developing critical thinking, analytical and problem solving skills which the world really needs today.
When I'm not teaching, I spend my time cooking, reading, watching fiction movies and working out. I love learning new things and building on what I already know this is why I regularly engage in Continuous Personal and Professional Development to improve on myself and my teaching methods. Cooking is one of my God given talents that at one time, I cooked to earn a living. It gives me joy and fuels my sense of purpose, having others eat my food and expressing gratitude makes me really happy. As a matter of fact, I grew up in a family where we look forward to homemade meals. My mom trained me to be a good cook especially in a native soups and dishes. My children, husband and siblings always look forward to my meals because it reminds us of who we are and unites us when we eat together.
I am a family oriented person. This is why I treasure spending time with my kids and relatives. I am fully involved in what they do academically and otherwise, and also encourage them to express their thoughts respectfully and confidently. I am intentional about creating safe and brave spaces for my children (and my students) to learn and grow. On weekends, we engage in religious activities together, cook together, worship together, and pray together. This strengthens our bond as a family.
I also like working out because it helps me stay fit, confident and healthy. Being an introvert, it helps put my thoughts together and process things better. I became more intentional about staying fit on 15th of December 2024 because I was struggling maintaining a healthy weight and developed some health challenges. I was advised by my doctor to shed some weight and exercising with a healthy lifestyle was the best option for me. I signed up at the gym house close to me and joined a group of women who were conscious about healthy living and till date, we have succeeded in keeping off excess weight and live a healthier and active life.
I got to know about HIVE through @ozibaby who connected me to @beauty197. I have been eager to join the Hive family but due to work demands and time factor to meet up, it lingered until this week.
Finally, I have been able to setup my HIVE account, funding my wallet and how to spend and at the same time earn using HBD with the guidance of @beauty197.
I am pleased and excited to be on this journey with you all, to comply with platform rules and creating original content.
