I can relate to you not having an appreciation for coffee and having to pay big money for it.
Can you believe I had access to, and stored packets of export-quality JBM coffee in my office to give to tourists on arrival????!!!! and never ever took a pack for me???
...Same with Appleton Rum. I got bottles of dark and gold rum as gifts whenever I took journalists to the rum estate. I used to give away those bottles of rum.

It was a carribean cruise many years ago and one of the stops was in Jamaica. The port there is closed off to the public but there are many approved vendors there..I guess. It is sort of like a closed off shopping compound with specific vendors approved by the cruise lines. You might already be aware of this? Anyway, we never left that compound that day but did some very light shopping there. I bought a hand carved wooden owl along with a cup of coffee. So technically I have been to Jamaica but I wouldn't actually say that I have been there because we didn't experience any of the country other than the commercialized tourist area created specifically for the cruise lines.

The wood carvings are incredibly popular souvenirs. Many times guests left the island and would call the hotel and ask was to purchase carvings and ship them to the US:)
Yeah both of those ports sound familiar so I'm not sure which one it was. I want say that it was the Ocho Rios port...

We could never understand why giraffes were the most popular carvings since we don't have giraffes in Jamaica. I think the carvers knew that it would appeal to customers despite that fact.
That's hilarious because the couple we were with, our friends, bought a set of three giraffes there 🤣
I'm not kiddin' you, the giraffes sold like hot bread. I would have a long order for the rasta man on the beach... He did very well for himself.
